Abstract:
Transistors are formed by depositing at least one layer of semiconductor material on a substrate comprising a polyphenylene polyimide. The substrate permits the use of processing temperatures in excess of 300Â C. during the processes used to form the transistors, thus allowing the formation of high quality silicon semiconductor layers. The substrate also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which closely matches that of silicon, thus reducing any tendency for a silicon layer to crack or delaminate.

Abstract:
A heat pump water heater system includes a compressor that has a variable clearance volume that can be selectively controlled to control the mass flow rate of refrigerant from the compressor. Under higher ambient air temperature conditions, the variable volume is increased to keep refrigerant in a variable clearance volume chamber and to decrease the mass flow rate of the refrigerant from the compressor. Under lower ambient air temperature conditions the variable volume is decreased to increase the mass flow rate. The variable clearance volume allows for maintaining optimum system performance under a variety of ambient air temperature conditions.

Abstract:
A transcritical refrigeration system includes a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion device, and an evaporator. Refrigerant is circulated though the closed circuit system. Preferably, carbon dioxide is used as the refrigerant. A fan moves outdoor air that exchanges heat with the refrigerant across the evaporator. The speed of the fan is regulated to regulate the evaporator pressure and to adapt the evaporator to different environmental conditions to achieve the optimal coefficient of performance. During high ambient conditions, the fan speed is decreased, decreasing the refrigerant mass flowrate in the system. The energy exchange per unit mass of the refrigerant in the gas cooler increases and the work of the fan decreases, increasing the coefficient of performance of the system. During low ambient conditions, the mass flowrate of the system is low and there is more heat transfer thermal resistance on the refrigerant side at the evaporator. The speed of the fan is lowered to decrease the work of the fan.

Abstract:
A refrigeration system includes a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion device, and an evaporator. Refrigerant is circulated though the closed circuit system. Preferably, carbon dioxide is used as the refrigerant. As carbon dioxide has a low critical point, systems utilizing carbon dioxide as a refrigerant usually require the refrigeration system to run transcritical. When the system is operating inefficiently, the system is modified so the system operates efficiently. First, a parameter of the system is monitored by a sensor and the then compared to a stored value to determine if the system is operating inefficiently. If the system is operating inefficiently, the system is modified to an efficient system.

Abstract:
Refrigerant is circulated through a vapor compression system including a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion device, and an evaporator. When a sensor detects that frozen water droplets form on the evaporator, a valve positioned between the discharge of the compression and inlet of expansion device is opened. Refrigerant from the discharge of the compressor bypasses the gas cooler and enters the inlet of the expansion device. The high temperature refrigerant melts the frost on the evaporator. As the frost melts, the passage of the evaporator is opened to allow air to flow through the evaporator.

Abstract:
A thin-film transistor array comprises at least first and second transistors. Each transistor comprises a source electrode, a drain electrode a semiconductor electrode, a gate electrode, and a semiconductor layer. The semiconductor layer is continuous between the first and second transistors. The semiconductor layer is preferably unpatterned. In various display applications, the geometry of the transistors is selected to provide acceptable leakage currents. In a preferred embodiment, the transistor array is employed in an encapsulated electrophoretic display.

Abstract:
A vapor compression system includes a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion device, and an evaporator. Refrigerant is circulated through the system. The high side pressure of the vapor compression system is selected to optimize the heating capacity. In one example, the optimal high side pressure is obtained by determining the high side pressure that correlates to the maximum current required to operate to the water pump. In another example, the actual temperature of the water entering the gas cooler, the water exiting the gas cooler, and the ambient air temperature are measured and compared to a predetermined value to determine the optimal high side pressure.

My father, Dr. Chao Chen, developed the theory, ?I Ching Acupuncture?. In our clinic data, more than 60% of my patients visited due to back pain. 80-90% of them experienced great relief after 3-12 treatments in average, even if the back pain was caused from a surgery.
