Abstract:
A device for disinfecting a portion of a medical implement includes two disinfecting chambers, wherein each disinfecting chamber includes a wall forming a medial and bottom openings, which are in communication with each other, wherein one disinfecting chamber is opposed to the other. Each disinfecting chamber houses a disinfecting member that is exposed through the medial opening to come into communication with a medical implement when the disinfecting chambers are closed. The device further includes a resilient member connected to the two disinfecting chambers, which biases the disinfecting chambers together to a closed position and permits displacement of the disinfecting chambers to an open position, such that the medial opening of one disinfecting chamber communicates with the medial opening of the other disinfecting chamber and the bottom opening of one chamber communicates with the bottom opening of the other chamber when in the closed position.

Abstract:
A device for automatically disinfecting a portion of a medical implement. The device includes a reservoir chamber having a top external opening, a medical implement protruded through a bottom part of the reservoir chamber with the portion to be disinfected exposed inside the reservoir chamber and below the top external opening, two disinfecting pads, and a resilient device. Each disinfecting pad is connected to the reservoir chamber through a mounting member, which permits displacement of the disinfecting pads relative to the reservoir chamber in substantially opposite directions thereby creating a gap between each pad and the portion to be disinfected. The resilient device biases the disinfecting pads such that when the disinfecting pads are displaced from a rest position, wherein they are contacting the portion to be disinfected, to an engaged position, the disinfecting pads are urged to return toward the portion to be disinfected to contact and disinfect the portion.

Abstract:
A disinfecting capping device for a sharp medical object, such as a medical needle, is provided. The device includes a container comprising a bottom, an open end opposite to the bottom, and a side disposed between the open end and the bottom of the container. The device further includes a first disinfecting member disposed on the internal surface of the side of the container between the open end and the bottom thereof so as to form a cavity for receiving the sharp medical object through the open end of the container.

Abstract:
A device for disinfection of a medical injection port is provided. The device includes a capping portion having an inner surface, a hollow portion having an inner surface, a proximal opening, and a distal opening, a connector coupling the capping portion of the device to the hollow portion thereof, and a disinfecting absorbent material disposed inside the capping portion of the device. The connector permits movement of the capping portion between a fully-seated position on the hollow portion of the device, and a position apart from the proximal opening thereof to permit ingress to the medical injection port.

An assembly for disinfecting a female port of a medical implement is provided. The assembly includes a receiving portion and a disinfecting member disposed substantially inside the receiving portion. The receiving portion includes an open proximal end, a side wall, and a syringe tip having an external surface. An internal surface has a plurality of protrusions disposed near the open proximal end. The syringe tip includes a passageway therethrough in a fluid communication with the chamber and an external surface extending towards the open proximal end so as to create a cavity between the internal surface of the side wall and the external surface of the syringe tip. The protrusions are shaped to engage helical threads of the female port of a medical implement. The second disinfecting member is disposed substantially inside the cavity created by the protrusions of the internal surface and the external surface of the syringe tip.
A capping device for disinfecting an access portion of a medical implement is provided. The device includes a housing for covering the access portion of the medical implement having an opening and a cavity having a surface, a disinfecting pad disposed within the cavity and attached to the surface thereof to disinfect the access portion of the medical implement by bringing the disinfecting pad in contact with the access portion of the medical implement, and a resilient member connecting the housing to the medical implement.
