Abstract:

A compact structure and rapid method for calibrating a document scanner provides for a substantially cylindrical calibration casing having a central axis and an outer surface, with a brightness calibration section of the outer surface encompassing a portion of the circumference of the outer surface, a document width detection segment encompassing a second portion of the circumference of the outer surface, and a document backer element encompassing a third segment of the circumference of the outer surface of the casing. A driver selectively positions the casing in different rotational positions in which the different segments of the outer surface of the cylinder face the optical element of the scanner.

Abstract:

A copy output stacker for a wide format copier/printer holds and stacks a wide range of copy sizes exiting a copier/printer. The copies are stacked conveniently in front of the copier/printer without occupying much space. The stacker includes the use of an inverted "window shade" assembly with its roller spring mechanism attached on one end of the base of the roll feed/cutter assembly of the copier/printer, while the other end is pulled out and attached at an angle in front of the media supply drawer in order to form a pocket to catch copy sheets exiting the copier/printer.

Abstract:

A low mass fuser roll using system incorporates a flexible web member to maintain copy sheets in biased contact with the fuser roll during the fusing operation. The web is fabricated so as to include perforations in a portion of the web area downstream from the fuser nip permitting moisture buildup from certain types of copy media to be vented. The web also has an electrically conductive coating to reduce friction. In another modification to the fabric web, a teflon strip is incorporated along the width of the web along the strip adjacent to the fuser nip, area to reduce the friction at the nip and reduce jamming or stalling tendencies.

Abstract:

A heat and pressure fuser includes a thin web which is wrapped around a portion of a heated fuser roll to form a fusing area. The web contacts the fuser over a relatively short wrap angle to reduce torque required to drive the fuser roll, thereby enabling a higher process speed. Fusing efficiency is maintained by use of a biasing mechanism which increases the pressure applied to the web both the entrance and exit areas of the fuser.

Abstract:

A heat and pressure fuser for fusing toner images on copy media which includes a thin web which is wrapped around a portion of a heated fuser roll to form an extended fusing area. An enclosed cavity is formed beneath the fusing area, the cavity incorporating a moisture collection and removal system. As the copy media passes through the fusing area, its moisture content is vaporized and is condensed within the cavity, collecting in a trough at the bottom of the cavity. The water periodically drains through an outlet drain and is collected in a storage container.

Abstract:

A low cost copy output stacker for engineering size copies includes a vertical catch tray molded into front doors of a copier/printer for accepting the lead edge of the copies and allowing the copies to bend over the top of the catch tray in a stacked position under gravity. A manually operated hinged stop is positioned in a down position blocking the path of copy sheets in order to keep them from reaching the bottom of the catch tray for stacking copy sheets size 11" to 24" and positioned in an up position for copy sheet sizes 24" to 48".

Abstract:

A developer housing of an electrostatographic reproducing machine of the type using a magnet roll is provided with two openings in at least one of its side walls. The first of these holes is located at the high pressure portion of the housing, and the second of the holes is located at the low pressure end of the housing. The holes are interconnected by a pneumatic duct. A pressure differential is created as vane-like whiskers of developer are rotated about the magnet roll. The duct neutralizes these pressure differentials within the developer housing, thus preventing toner from being blown out of the developer housing.
