  • Assignee:
    Ametek, Inc. - Kent OH
  • International Classification:
    H01R 39/38
  • US Classification:
    310239, 310 88, 310233, 310220
  • Abstract:
A motor assembly includes a commutator having a shaft extending axially therefrom, a commutator end bracket assembly, and at least two brushes carried by the commutator end bracket assembly and in contact with the commutator. A disc is carried by the commutator for rotation therewith. The commutator includes a notch and the disc is rotatable therein.
  • Fan Motor Assembly With Noise Suppression

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20050220640, Oct 6, 2005
  • Filed:
    Apr 2, 2004
  • Appl. No.:
    10/816609
  • Inventors:
David Finkenbinder - Ravenna OH, US
James Shawcross - Hudson OH, US
  • International Classification:
    F04B039/00
    F04B053/00
  • US Classification:
    417423300, 417363000, 417423100
  • Abstract:
A low-noise air moving motor assembly includes a motor assembly having a rotatable shaft, a fan assembly coupled to the rotatable shaft which generates an airflow that passes over at least a portion of the motor assembly. A self-extinguishing flame and noise suppression sleeve is at least partially disposed around the motor assembly. Ideally, the sleeve is a 94 V-0 rated foam material. The fan assembly includes a fan secured to the shaft, a diffuser/bracket assembly coupled to the motor assembly which rotatably receives the shaft. A fan shroud is secured to the diffuser/bracket assembly, wherein rotation of the fan draws air in through the fan shroud and out the diffuser/bracket assembly, the diffuser/bracket assembly having at least one foam piece coupled to curvilinear vanes reduce the noise of air flowing therethrough.
  • Reduced Noise Diffuser For A Motor-Fan Assembly

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20070025848, Feb 1, 2007
  • Filed:
    Jul 29, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/193908
  • Inventors:
James Shawcross - Hudson OH, US
David Finkenbinder - Ravenna OH, US
  • International Classification:
    F04D 29/44
  • US Classification:
    415208200
  • Abstract:
An air diffuser for a motor-fan unit having reduced blade passage frequencies, and reduced noise generation, includes a baffle plate, external vanes, internal vanes, diffuser ports, and a central opening. The baffle plate of the diffuser is made integral with the internal and external vanes, such that any leaking, rattling, or pure tone noise that may be generated from air movement over the surface of the diffuser are prevented or reduced. Additionally, the number of internal and external vanes provided by the diffuser is that equal to a prime number, thus resulting in a reduction of harmonic and pure tone noise generated during the operation of the motor-fan unit.
  • Bearing Bore Construction For Fan End Bracket

    view source
  • US Patent:
    59888890, Nov 23, 1999
  • Filed:
    May 7, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/074426
  • Inventors:
Gary A. Barnhart - Newbury OH
James P. Shawcross - Hudson OH
  • Assignee:
    Ametek, Inc. - Kent OH
  • International Classification:
    F16C 1700
  • US Classification:
    384441
  • Abstract:
A motor fan bracket is molded of a fiber reinforced thermoset polyester. The motor/fan bracket has an annular frame and an annular bearing housing concentric with the frame and supported by inwardly extending arms. The annular bearing housing has a bearing-receiving cavity configured in cross section as an equilateral polygon such that each face of that cavity is tangential to a bearing received therein.
  • Wall Mounted Electric Room Heater

    view source
  • US Patent:
    47391537, Apr 19, 1988
  • Filed:
    Jun 2, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/869732
  • Inventors:
Robert D. Rendel - Laurinburg NC
James P. Shawcross - Florence SC
  • International Classification:
    H05B 100
    F24H 300
    F24H 902
  • US Classification:
    219368
  • Abstract:
A wall mounted electric room heater includes a wall box adapted to be secured between a pair of wall studs and having an open front and side walls extending from a back wall. A heater/blower assembly carried by a frame is disposed in the box and includes and electric resistance heating element mounted in a venturi having an inlet spaced from the back wall and an outlet communicating with the open front. A fan is mounted within the venturi for drawing air from the room through the open front into the wall box outside the venturi to the venturi inlet for flow through the venturi over the heating element to be heated and discharge from the venturi outlet and through the open front into the room. An air straightener as installed on the venturi downstream of the fan for causing the heated air to discharge from the venturi outlet in substantially axial direction to prevent the heated air from being entrained with the room air being drawn into the wall box by the fan. A louvered grill overlies the open front of the box and the air straightener.
  • Motor Having Universal Fan End Bracket

    view source
  • US Patent:
    57148198, Feb 3, 1998
  • Filed:
    Oct 28, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/738190
  • Inventors:
Michael L. Gilliland - Kent OH
Robert A. Ciccarelli - Kent OH
James P. Shawcross - Hudson OH
  • Assignee:
    Ametek, Inc. - Kent OH
  • International Classification:
    H02K 520
  • US Classification:
    310 91
  • Abstract:
A fan end bracket for a motorized fan assembly has a plurality of curvilinear tapered air passages. Each air passage includes a flow port, such that air being moved by a rotating fan assembly is directed through the air passages and the flow ports. A skeletal motor assembly is affixed to one side of the end bracket such that the motor shaft is disposed through a shaft aperture in the end bracket. A rotating fan member is affixed to the motor shaft adjacent to the other side of the end bracket. A shroud member is provided to shroud the rotating fan member so as to cause the flow of air to be directed through the air passages. A baffle plate is interposed between the rotating fan member and the end bracket. The baffle plate includes a plurality of curvilinear scallops which correspond to the air passages in the end bracket. An effective flow port is created between the scallops of the baffle plate and the tapered ramp surfaces of the end brackets so the size of the effective flow port may be adjusted by merely changing the baffle plate so as to optimize the flow and pressure parameters of the fan for a particular motor size.
