Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for preparing adhesive polymers which commences with the formation of a poly-telechelic polymer of narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) by polymerizing one or more radically-polymerizable monomers in the presence of a transition metal, a ligand, and an initiator, under atom or group transfer radical polymerization conditions. In this polymerization step, OH groups are contained on one or more of said initiator, an initiating monomer, a polymerizable monomer, a terminating monomer, or combinations thereof. The poly-telechelic polymer, then, is chain extended with a polyisocyanate to form the adhesive polymer.

PSA polymers can be polymerized in SCF fluids to make unique adhesive products. Inclusion of a fluorinated reactant in the SCF polymerization process yields a PSA with improved resistance to mineral oil.

Functional optical materials for optical systems that are typically useful in optical waveguides, optical switching systems, optical modulators, optical computing systems and the like. Included are polymer systems and electrooptical chromophores. Polymers are thermoplastic and/or thermosetting polymers and are blended or co-polymerized with the electrooptic chromophore. The thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer selected from an acrylic/methacrylic, polyester, polyurethane, polyimide, polyamide, epoxy resin, or hybrid (organic-inorganic) or nanocomposite polyester polymer. The electrooptic chromophore is selected from a substituted aniline, substituted azobenzene, substituted stilbene, or substituted imine. Methods for improving adhesion promotion for the various novel materials are also provided.

Single Component Room Temperature Curable Low Voc Epoxy Coatings
A single component epoxy coating precursor and a method for making such a precursor, a low VOC epoxy coating and a method for making such a coating, and a method for making a blocked amine which is more stable than previously known ones. The single component epoxy coating precursor includes an epoxy resin, a first solvent, and a blocked amine. The single component epoxy coating precursor has a viscosity after 30 days at a temperature of 55Â C. of less than 16 stokes.
The polymeric composition for friction elements comprises a co-polymer between (I) a resin containing phenolic groups and a reticulation agent, and (II) an organopolysiloxane resin containing terminal silanol groups. A part at least of the phenolic groups is bound to the terminal silanol groups. A process of the preparation of the above polymeric composition may comprise the following steps: a) mixing (I) a resin containing the phenolic groups and the reticulation agent, (II) resin containing the terminal silanol groups, and (III) an epoxy resin or the epoxidisesd organopolysiloxane; b) curing the mixture for a period of time sufficient to complete substantially the reaction between the phenolic groups and the terminal silanol groups, c) post-heating the product obtained under b).
