Abstract:
The invention provides a device for bowel packing having an essentially elliptical shape that is essentially symmetrical along a minor axis of the ellipse, and the device includes a notch located on the minor axis below the major axis. The device is composed of material comprising an elastomeric polymer and the device is appropriately sized for retaining the intestines of a mammal. The invention further provides methods of use of the devices of the invention for bowel packing. The invention further provides methods for increasing bowel packing speed, increasing effectiveness of bowel retention, decreasing the formation of post-operative intraperitoneal adhesions, and increasing temperature of the abdominal cavity during surgery by use of the device.

Abstract:
A stilt comprises a floor platform, a shoe platform, a first substantially vertical support, a second substantially vertical support, and a toe assembly. The shoe platform is superposed above the floor platform. The first substantially vertical support connects a front portion of the floor platform with a front portion of the shoe platform. The second substantially vertical support connects a back portion of the floor platform with a back portion of the shoe platform. The first and second substantially vertical supports connect the shoe platform and the floor platform in a parallelogram configuration. The toe assembly is hingedly connected to a front end portion of the floor platform. A spring biases the toe assembly into alignment with the floor platform. A leg support extends upwardly from the second vertical support. A calf brace is pivotally connected to an upper end portion of the leg support.

Abstract:
One embodiment of the invention provides kit that can be used for closing off the volume between the top and bottom trays of a hand cart for more secure storage of items on the bottom tray. The kit comprises a first wall section, a second wall section, and a third wall section. The first wall section is generally flat. The second wall section has a first generally flat section and a second generally flat section connected by a corner section. The third wall section has a first generally flat section and a second generally flat section connected by a corner section, and a generally flat door section connected to the second generally flat section by a hinge. The kit preferably comprises a plurality of fastener pairs for attaching the wall sections to the angle-stock legs. Preferably, each fastener pair comprises a bolt and a nut, and the kit further comprises a bushing for each fastener pair.

Abstract:
A spring tool for actuating explosive fasteners for driving nails into a substrate is disclosed. For the tool to operate at its maximum potential the firing pin guide should be pushed securely against the rear of the fastener and the tip of the fastener should be pushed securely against the substrate. The action of the operator pushing the tool forward to actuate the tool moves the trigger body forward while compressing the firing spring until the trigger body travels the exact distance needed to release the trigger ball. A step or backstop insert is added to the inside of the trigger body. The step is designed such that at the exact distance where the trigger ball is released, the step contacts the rear of the firing pin guide. The firing pin guide cannot move backwards. The stop allows all internal components to form a solid (contacting) stack, from the tip of the pin assembly to the end cap, the forward pressure of the operator actuating the tool keeps the tip of the pin assembly pressed firmly against the substrate while the firing pin impacts the load.
