Unfortunately, all of this has been overshadowed by what happened after the race. Brian Zimmerman, a 41-year-old Pennsylvania resident, was killed and nine others injured by lightning strikes in the parking lot behind the grandstands. This is just so incredibly sad to me.
The lightning strike was one of two that hit the just outside the track Sunday during a confusing and tragic end to a shortened day of racing. One of the bolts killed 41-year-old Brian Zimmerman, and a total of nine others were injured.
Brian Zimmerman, of Moosic, Pa., died as he stood near his carin the parking lot of Pocono Raceway, according to the MonroeCounty coroner. A woman who answered the phone at Zimmerman's homedeclined comment.
