A system and method of transporting volumes of information from one host computer system to another using point-in-time copies of LUNs but wherein the hardware provider does not necessarily understand the volume configuration of the data. The system and method involves an intermediate layer, i. e. , a point-in-time copy interface layer that communicates with both a requesting host computer system and a hardware provider to enable the transfer of volumes of information without requiring that the hardware provider understand the volume information.

Abstract:

Disclosed herein is a method implemented by a task mining engine. The task mining engine is stored as processor executable code on a memory. The processor executable code is executed by a processor that is communicatively coupled to the memory. The method includes receiving recorded tasks identifying user activity with respect to a computing environment and clustering the recorded user tasks into steps by processing and scoring each recorded user task. The method also includes extracting step sequences that identify similar combinations or repeated combinations of the steps to mimic the user activity.

Abstract:

An enlightened storage target may operate as a conventional storage target device, and may have additional capabilities to manage an initiator-target relationship under a service level agreement or quality of service agreement. An initiator may negotiate a service level agreement with the enlightened target, then the target may manage storage within the target device to meet the service level agreement. The target may also include a monitoring system that may monitor actual performance and compare the performance against the service level agreement. When the service level agreement is not being met, the target may alert the initiator and, in some cases, take precautionary or other actions until the service level agreement is either changed or is met.
