Abstract:
The present invention is an inflation system utilizing an inflation device and an adaptor therefor. The inflation device includes a cylindrical housing which receives a pressurized cartridge of gas, a head unit, and a nozzle. The head unit of the device includes structure for creating and delivering a metered bolus of gas per each actuation of the device. The device audibly indicates to the user when a single bolus of gas has been successfully delivered to an inflatable bladder. In another aspect of the invention, an elastomeric inflation port which serves as an adaptor for connecting the inflation device of the invention to an inflatable bladder is provided. The inflation port of the invention may also function as a fluid release mechanism to vent fluid from the bladder.
Dry Powder Medicament Inhalator Having An Inhalation-Activated Piston To Aerosolize Dose And Deliver Same

US Classification:

Abstract:
A dry powder inhalator for delivering a precise dose of a medicament contains a mesh disc impregnated with a series of spaced, medicament doses about the disc periphery. The inhalator is armed by manually retracting a finger pull extending downwardly from the bottom of the inhalator housing or rotating the bottom of the housing. The user inserts a mouthpiece on the housing into the mouth and inhales. This causes a chamber in the housing under a diaphragm to evacuate, thereby pulling the diaphragm down onto a knock out lever. The pivoting of the lever enables release of a piston into a cylinder which first compresses, and then dispenses a reduced volume of air at high pressure in a burst up through the medicament disc. When the burst of air hits the impregnated disc, the dose is forced out of the mesh's interstices, producing a cloud of the drug in its powdered form, which is inhaled by the user.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus for applying hemostatic or ligating clips. The apparatus is provided with a unitary chassis on which all other components are attached. A clip housing is disposed at the forward end of the apparatus and stores a plurality of abuttingly arranged forward facing clips that are fed one at a time to the jaws. Upon closure of the handles, the jaws are drawn rearwardly into the apparatus and cammed closed to deform a clip positioned between the jaws. Upon release of the handles, the apparatus returns to its unactuated position and advances a clip to the jaws. The apparatus includes a lockout member to prevent actuation of the apparatus while a clip is in transition from the clip housing to the jaws.

Abstract:
The invention provides an improved catheter steering mechanism for pulling a first catheter steering wire while simultaneously allowing a second catheter steering wire to remain static, and vice versa. The mechanism includes at least one rotatable gear and means, such as a rotatable knob, for manually rotating the gear. A first linearly slidable toothed rack is attached to the proximal end of one steering wire, and a second linearly slidable toothed rack is attached to the proximal end of the other steering wire. A toothed gear rotatable by rotation of the knob engages each of the toothed racks to move them linearly in opposite directions in response to rotation of said gear. Preferably three intermeshing gears are used so that movements of the racks are in the same direction as the rotation of the knob. Preferably the steering wires are connected to the racks by connections that transfer tension as the racks move away from the wires but allow the wires to remain static, when the rack moves toward its associated wire.

Abstract:
A medication delivery pen having a repeat-dose feature that limits motion of the dose control mechanism using an adjustable repeat-dose stop on the dose knob. In addition, the medication delivery pen also provides the user a simple mechanism for setting and correcting the dose and a drive mechanism that makes the dispensing operation as easy as possible requiring as little force as necessary.
