Abstract:

The present invention is a device and method for gaining access, quickly and inexpensively, to a body cavity for the purpose of inserting into the cavity a medical device, such as a chest tube. The device generally comprises a catheter and a cannula insertable into the catheter during an insertion procedure. The cannula has a cutting tip that extends beyond one end of the catheter. The cutting tip enables simple insertion of the device into the body without requiring substantial pushing force. Once the device is inserted in the body, the cannula is removed, leaving a path of entry into the body cavity, while removing the sharp cutting tip from the area to reduce the likelihood of injury to a patient in whom the device is inserted.

Abstract:

According to one embodiment, a route management system for an unmanned vehicle includes a network node in communication with an unmanned vehicle control system and an unmanned vehicle. The network node is operable to transmit a number of initial waypoints to the unmanned vehicle, transmit one or more in-flight waypoints to the unmanned vehicle after the unmanned vehicle has arrived at a corresponding one or more of the initial waypoints, and replace the one or more of the initial waypoints with the one or more in-flight waypoints in the unmanned vehicle such that the total quantity waypoints stored in the unmanned vehicle does not exceed a specified quantity.

Abstract:

A global object detection server reduces the amount of time needed to determine whether an object is present in a collection of images for a geographic area. In particular, the disclosed global object detection server selects one or more object recognition algorithms from a collection of algorithms based on one or more characteristics of the object to be detected. The algorithm results may then be fed back to reduce input data sets from iterative collections for similar regions. The global object detection server can also derive stochastic probabilities for object detection accuracy. Thereafter, one or more visualizations may be created that show confidence levels for the object's probable location in the collection of images.

Abstract:

A data broker-reasoner (DBR) system for automating mission planning and execution includes a context originating entity, a reasoner/decision entity, and a plurality of enforcement entities. The context originating entity extracts mission policy information from a variety of source materials, including checklists, manuals, and other documentation. The reasoner/decision entity interprets the mission policy in the context of situational awareness (SA) events to determine which policies should be enforced. Each of the enforcement entities is configured to enforce various policies within the context of a given mission lifecycle phase by providing commands, data, and requests to a plurality of user applications and/or other mission systems. The DBR can operate autonomously or semi-autonomously.
