Abstract:
A method and apparatus for switching an AC motor between two power supplies such as supply mains and a variable frequency AC motor drive. In a transfer procedure, the motor drive is coupled to the motor to power the motor. When the supply main is connected to the motor, a resulting current spike in the output of the motor drive is detected to disconnect the motor drive from the motor very quickly while limiting current. In a capture procedure, both power supplies are coupled to the motor with the motor drive in an idle mode. When the supply mains are disconnected from the motor, the voltage change in the output of the motor drive is detected to quickly activate the motor drive to power the motor.

Abstract:
A method and system for determining an inductance value of an inductive element are presented. The method includes energizing the inductive element using an N-pulse AC to DC converter in electrical communication with the inductive element and an AC source. The method further includes determining at each of a plurality of periodic time intervals an inductive element voltage value, an inductive element current value, and an equivalent source phase angle. An Nth harmonic impedance squared value is then determined for the inductive element using the inductive element voltage and current values and the equivalent source phase angles. The inductive element inductance value is then calculated using the Nth harmonic impedance squared value and an AC source frequency value.

A control system having a host computer and one or more control computers connected to an interface for control of a process or machinery. The control computers are capable of automatically initiated network address assignment and configuration when powered up after installation. The network address is based on a location identifier situated in the interface that corresponds to a specific connection thereof to the control computer. The control computer reads the location identifier from the interface and requests a network address. The host computer assigns the network address based on the location identifier. Configuration of the control computer then proceeds. The procedure applies to newly installed control computers, whether first time installment or a replacement for a failed control computer.
