Abstract:
Techniques for liquid replenishment in a printer/plotter. An ink delivery system (IDS) is employed wherein the on-carriage spring reservoir of the print cartridge is manually and securely connected to the off-carriage reservoir. A pen cartridge that uses an internal spring to provide vacuum pressure is connected from an inlet port through a unitary coupler to an ink reservoir located off the scanning carriage axis. The coupler serves to align as well as to secure two mating valves to securely hold them together in an open latched position which is not intended to be modified or disconnected until the entire ink supply has been depleted. A replaceable ink supply module for providing replenishment of an inkjet printhead includes a collapsible bag, an enclosure box, a connective tube, and an on/off valve. These four components are incorporated into a composite sealed system which remains intact during shipment, storage, installation and operation. The collapsible bag is placed inside the protective enclosure box and has an end-connect outlet permanently attached to one end of the connective tube.

Abstract:
A method that produces coupled radical products from biomass. The method involves obtaining a lipid or carboxylic acid material from the biomass. This material may be a carboxylic acid, an ester of a carboxylic acid, a triglyceride of a carboxylic acid, or a metal salt of a carboxylic acid, or any other fatty acid derivative. This lipid material or carboxylic acid material is converted into an alkali metal salt. The alkali metal salt is then used in an anolyte as part of an electrolytic cell. The electrolytic cell may include an alkali ion conducting membrane (such as a NaSICON membrane). When the cell is operated, the alkali metal salt of the carboxylic acid decarboxylates and forms radicals. Such radicals are then bonded to other radicals, thereby producing a coupled radical product such as a hydrocarbon. The produced hydrocarbon may be, for example, saturated, unsaturated, branched, or unbranched, depending upon the starting material.

Abstract:
A method that produces coupled radical products. The method involves obtaining a sodium salt of a carboxylic acid. The alkali metal salt is then used in an anolyte as part of an electrolytic cell. The electrolytic cell may include an alkali ion conducting membrane (such as a NaSICON membrane) that separates an anolyte compartment housing the anolyte from a catholyte compartment housing a catholyte. The anolyte includes a first solvent or mixture of solvents and a quantity of the sodium salt of the carboxylic acid. When the cell is operated, the alkali metal salt of the carboxylic acid decarboxylates and forms radicals. Such radicals are then bonded to other radicals, thereby producing a coupled radical product such as a hydrocarbon.

Abstract:
The invention relates generally to refillable ink cartridges for computer controlled ink jet printers and more specifically to apparatus for refilling collapsible ink bags which are maintained at sub-atmospheric pressure within such equipment. A mass of porous capillary material disposed in an ink supply passageway provides a capillary valve which prevents flow of ink when one side of the valve is unwetted.

Abstract:
An ink cartridge for a thermal ink jet printer containing a separate collapsible ink reservoir which is kept under negative pressure by a pressure regulator to prevent ink leakage. The collapsible reservoir has a pair of flexible plastic membrane ink bag sidewalls each connected at their periphery to form an ink bag and an ink pressure regulator in the bag. The pressure regulator comprises a pair of spaced parallel side plates urged apart by a spring toward the adjacent bag sidewalls whereby the reservoir is collapsible against the spring pressure to an essentially flat shape to permit substantially complete dispensation of ink from the bag. Inadvertent puncture of the thin bag walls by the regulator is prevented by a protective edge guard in the form of a layer of tough plastic bonded to the outer surfaces of the sideplates, the protective layers each having a peripheral edge which extends beyond the edge of the side plate to prevent the edges of the sideplates from directly contacting the bag walls. The regulator is centrally positioned and held in place between the flexible membrane bag walls, preferably by heat bonding of the bag walls to the edge guards.
