Abstract:
The present invention is a manually controlled and propelled wheeled vehicle whose wheels are locked or held in place via a braking mechanism. This invention includes a proximity sensing mechanism that determines when an operator is sufficiently in control of the wheeled vehicle. Upon an operator presence being determined, the proximity sensor calls for the release of the wheel locks and or braking mechanisms. Once the operator is no longer in the proper position, the wheel locks or brakes re-engage.

Abstract:
The present invention is an apparatus that allows a torch, lantern, or candle user to ignite an actual flame electronically with the turn of a switch. Furthermore, this invention provides the means for the user to remove the flame without the need to blow it out or manually snuff the flame.

Abstract:
An apparatus in an example comprises a proximity sensor and a controller. The proximity sensor serves to indicate a presence of a living object within a preselected distance of an electrically powered outlet receptacle. The controller performs a preselected control action in connection with an operation of the electrically powered outlet receptacle upon a determination the living object is within the preselected distance of the electrically powered outlet receptacle.

Abstract:
A circuit is described for selectively increasing the number of text rows on the display screen of a CRT. The number of scan lines in each text row is reduced by one in response to a display format selection signal. The scan lines so saved are utilized to form two additional text rows. A variable modulus scan line counter is used in combination with a decoder to provide the scan line counter modulus desired. Additionally, a text row counter is used in combination with a second decoder to selectively change the modulus of the text row counter to correspond with the selected modulus of the scan line counter. A compressed display is provided by simultaneously changing the modulus of both the scan line and text row counters.

Abstract:
Apparatus for adapting a common dc motor for use in a typewriter to drive the ribbon lift and advance functions. The motor is coupled by means of a set of gears to a shaft on which are mounted the ribbon advance gear and ribbon lift cams. Also mounted on the shaft is a slotted disk. As the motor and disk rotate, an optical sensor outputs a signal for each slot. A processor then computes the motor speed from the slot timing and issues modulated pulses to the motor to regulate its speed.
One or more methods are disclosed to provide for the preparation of a food product that can be quickly cooked, while exhibiting flavors, textures, and colors of more traditional and time consuming cooking methods. The method produces a food product with the full flavor profile of barbeque, with the ease of a ready-made meal. The preparation prior to packaging facilitates a Maillard reaction and carmelization of the food product. The method can include marinating the food product, searing an outside portion of the food product, smoking the food product, vacuum sealing and then cooking the food product using a sous vide method. The prepared food product can then be easily heated by the end user for consumption.

Abstract:
A shredder has cutter elements for destroying articles (paper) and a feed mechanism for advancing paper from a stack in a tray into cutters for shredding. The feed mechanism has a feed member provided adjacent to the tray with an elastic arm for engaging and disengaging the stack. The feed member rotates in a feeding direction about an axle, with the elastic arm elastically deforming to apply pressure to feed paper atop the stack to the cutters. The elastic arm can include a protruding tip that is inserted into the stack. The tray includes a curved feed bed to assist in feeding paper into the cutters and deforming the elastic arm. A pivot arm can also move the feed member relative to the tray (e.g., vertically). A disengagement mechanism can hold the feed mechanism in an inoperable feeding position when a drawer or tray is moved into an open position.

Abstract:
A shredder includes a shredding mechanism and a vibration sensor configured to detect vibrations generated by the shredding mechanism. The shredder includes a controller configured to regulate operation of the shredder's motor in response to the detected vibrations. The controller may regulate operation of the shredder so as to keep the detected vibrations below a predetermined vibration level during operation of the shredder. The controller may modify operation of the shredder (e.g., turn the shredder off, conduct an autocorrect sequence, increase or decrease the shredder's speed, display an error message) in response to the detected vibrations having a predetermined characteristic (e.g., frequency and/or amplitude within a predetermined range, a characteristic that indicates a material/paper jam or misfeed). The controller may change the predetermined characteristics over the life of the shredder to account for gradual changes to the shredder's baseline vibration characteristics as components wear in and out.
