  • Apparatus For Vibrating And Dewebbing Tire Cord Fabric Coated With An Undried Liquid

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39616010, Jun 8, 1976
  • Filed:
    Jul 17, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/596703
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B05C 1108
  • US Classification:
    118 57
  • Abstract:
An apparatus for vibrating and dewebbing tire cord fabric treated with a liquid bonding agent for promoting the adhesion between the warp cords of the fabric and the rubbery material in which the cords are embedded. The fabric, freshly coated with the liquid bonding agent, is guided along a desired vertical pathway between a pair of rotating cylindrically shaped cams which are eccentrically mounted for rotation about axes which are equally spaced from the pathway of the fabric. The rotation of the cams is synchronized such that the cams continuously contact the fabric as they alternately push the fabric in opposite directions from the desired pathway to vibrate the fabric between the rotational axes of the cams. Thus, excess liquid coating is shaken from the fabric to help remove any liquid coating webbing the openings between the warp cords and weft threads of the fabric.
  • Pricker Roll

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39694585, Jul 13, 1976
  • Filed:
    Feb 3, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/546247
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B29H 306
    B29H 902
  • US Classification:
    264154
  • Abstract:
A pricker roll used with a machine for calendering reinforcement tire cords with rubber material. The pricker roll produces a pattern of cuts in the thin sheets of rubber material to allow the escapement of air entrapped in the material during the sheet-forming process.
  • Apparatus For Coating Wire On A Spool

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40686175, Jan 17, 1978
  • Filed:
    May 3, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/682709
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B05C 3109
  • US Classification:
    118 50
  • Abstract:
An apparatus for coating wire tire cord on a spool with a substance for increasing the bond between the wire tire cord and rubber material used in the production of tires. The apparatus is composed of a hollow pipe which forms a chamber in which the spools of wire are coated. The pipe is inclined from the horizontal and is provided with a longitudinally extending trackway on which spools of wire can roll, by gravity, axially through the pipe and treatment chamber. Means are provided for circulating liquid coating through the chamber and for alternately creating a vacuum and pressure within the chamber to increase penetration of the liquid coating into the interstices between segments of cord wrapped on the spool. Other means are supplied for circulating a drying fluid in the chamber to dry the liquid coating on the wire of each spool disposed within the treatment chamber.
  • Method For Coating Wire On A Spool

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41884205, Feb 12, 1980
  • Filed:
    Apr 20, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/898273
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B05C 310
  • US Classification:
    427295
  • Abstract:
A device for coating wire tire cord on a spool with an agent for increasing the bond between the wire tire cord and rubber material used in the production of tires. The device is composed of at least one hollow pipe which forms a chamber in which the spools of wire are coated. The pipe is declined to help facilitate movement of the spools of wire through the pipe and allow drainage of any trapped liquid from the pipe. A hydraulic cylinder is provided adjacent the mouth of the pipe to engage and push a number of spools, in tandem, through the pipe in axially aligned, end-to-end relation. Means are supplied for circulating a liquid, containing the agent, into the chamber and for alternately creating a vacuum and pressure within the chamber to increase penetration of the liquid coating into the interstices between segments of wire cord wrapped on the spools. Other means are provided for circulating a heated fluid in the chamber to dry the liquid coating on the wire of each spool being treated.
  • Wind-Up Device For Tire Cord Fabric

    view source
  • US Patent:
    39469603, Mar 30, 1976
  • Filed:
    Feb 19, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/551228
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B65H 1708
  • US Classification:
    242 65
  • Abstract:
A device for coiling a sheet of wire tire cord fabric under a predetermined desired tension to produce a roll of tire cord fabric which is appropriately wound free of ruffles or bagginess. The device has a take-up roll on which the fabric is coiled, a drive roll for rotating the take-up roll, and means for causing relative movement of the rolls to maintain a predetermined pressure between fabric on the take-up roll and the drive roll, as the roll of fabric increases in size and weight. An idler roll is disposed adjacent the take-up roll for first engaging the fabric, changing its directional movement and guiding it immediately onto the take-up roll. Paper is directed between annular layers of the roll of fabric to separate the fabric and prevent any distortion of it.
  • Device For Sensing Undried Tire Cord Fabric Treated With A Bonding Agent

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40290441, Jun 14, 1977
  • Filed:
    Sep 17, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/614725
  • Inventors:
Edward E. Hunter - Akron OH
  • Assignee:
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - Akron OH
  • International Classification:
    B05C 1104
  • US Classification:
    118 9
  • Abstract:
A device for sensing wet tire cord fabric treated with a liquid bonding agent carried by a vaporizable solvent. The device is characterized by a chamber in which solvent vapor is accumulated. The chamber is formed between a pair of rotatable metal rolls which engage fabric moving past them. A conventional gas analyzer is coupled to the chamber for drawing fluid from the chamber and making an analysis of the fluid to determine if the fabric is still wet and has not been sufficiently dried.
