  • US Patent:
    48587583, Aug 22, 1989
  • Filed:
    Dec 12, 1988
  • Appl. No.:
    7/284783
  • Inventors:
Frances E. Mitchell - Pleasanton CA
    G. Edward Campbell - Pleasanton CA
Dale S. Steichen - Livermore CA
  • Assignee:
The Clorox Company - Oakland CA
  • International Classification:
    B65D 8124
    B65D 5116
    B65D 2300
    C01B 1500
  • US Classification:
    206205
  • Abstract:
A transparent, durable container for housing and delivering a free-flowing granular dry oxidant bleach composition, the container being constructed of a heteropolymeric plastic which maximizes transmission of water vapor for minimum decomposition of the oxidant bleach stored within the container. The selected plastic has a water vapor transmission rate of at least about 2 g/day/100 in. sup. 2 /mil. thickness. The container may include a fragrancing means located remote from the container. The fragrancing means is isolated from the bleach composition by an apertured barrier which allows the fragrance to contact the bleach composition but does not allow the bleach composition to contact the fragrancing means.
  • Encapsulated Enzyme In Dry Bleach Composition

  • US Patent:
    50930214, Mar 3, 1992
  • Filed:
    Jul 24, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/384954
  • Inventors:
Thomas S. Coyne - Livermore CA
    J. Bruce England - Pleasanton CA
Blanca L. Haendler - Livermore CA
Frances E. Mitchell - Pleasanton CA
Dale S. Steichen - Byron CA
Carrole L. Johnson - Pleasanton CA
  • Assignee:
The Clorox Company - Oakland CA
  • International Classification:
    C11D 338
    C11D 3395
    C01B 1510
  • US Classification:
    252 91
  • Abstract:
Methods and compositions for increased stability of enzymes in oxidant dry bleach. Enzyme stability is adversely affected by increased temperature, humidity, and the presence of strong oxidants, such as peracids. The instant invention provides enzyme stability in the presence of oxidant bleaches by coating or encapsulating the enzyme, while providing enzyme solubility suitable for use in bleach mixtures upon introduction to an aqueous medium. Particularly, alkali and neutral materials act as protection agents, which neutralize oxidant species before the contact and denature the enzyme. Other standard bleaching composition adjuncts such as builders, fillers, buffers, brighteners, fragrances, and the like may be included in the enzyme-containing oxidant bleach composition in addition to the discrete coated enzyme granules.
  • Delayed Onset Active Oxygen Bleach Composition

    view source
  • US Patent:
    51300443, Jul 14, 1992
  • Filed:
    Jan 31, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/304869
  • Inventors:
Frances E. Mitchell - Pleasanton CA
David L. deLeeuw - San Ramon CA
  • Assignee:
The Clorox Company - Oakland CA
  • International Classification:
    C11D 3395
  • US Classification:
    252102
  • Abstract:
Peroxygen bleach compositions which can be used together with oxygen-sensitive wash aids are disclosed. Combination products comprising these bleach compositions together with the oxygen sensitive wash aids are disclosed as well as are methods of laundering employing them. The bleach compositions include a peroxygen source, a surface active or hydrotropic bleach activator or catalyst therefor and a quaternary ammonium salt. As compared to equivalent compositions not containing the quaternary ammonium salt, these bleach compositions are characterized by a delayed onset of active oxygen production when they are added to wash solutions. When these bleach compositions are used in combination with oxygen-sensitive wash aids, the sensitive wash aids have an initial period when they can act before the active oxygen level rises to a level that it interferes with their action. The bleach compositions of this invention which contain the added quaternary ammonium salt are also characterized by achieving higher ultimate levels of active oxygen than do equivalent compositions which do not contain the ammonium salt.

  • US Classification:
    25218626
  • Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention provides a stable peracid bleach composition comprising discrete granules which comprise peracid, namely, diperoxydodecanedioic acid. In another preferred embodiment, enzymes are present in the composition separate from the discrete peracid granules. In both the enzyme-containing and non-enzyme containing compositions, peracid and exotherm control agents are combined in a discrete granule in which the amount of water is carefully controlled to result in, respectively, maximum peracid and enzyme stability. Standard bleaching composition adjuncts such as fillers, brighteners, pH control agents and the like may be included in the compositions apart from the discrete peracid granules.

The dry product comprises separate granular, particulate and beaded components wherein the granular component is diperacid stabilized with an exotherm control agent, diluent and a binder that includes unneutralized polymeric acid. The beaded component is fragrance admixed with a water soluble starch; the particulate components include an agglomerated extender or bulking agent, a pH control agent, and protected fluorescent whitening agents, all as separate particulate components. The water content of the granular diperacid is carefully controlled, as is the ratio of exotherm control agent to diperacid.
