Abstract:
A system is provided for estimating engine exhaust temperature in accordance with an exhaust temperature model based on a number of engine operating parameters. In one embodiment, the engine exhaust temperature model is based on current values of engine speed, intake manifold temperature, mass charge flow, default fuel command parameters, and a first set of model constants. In an alternative embodiment, the engine exhaust temperature model is based on current values of engine speed, intake manifold temperature, intake manifold pressure, mass charge flow, default fueling parameters, and a second set of model constants including a lower heating value of fuel constant.

A mixing and combustion process for a compression ignition engine () creates an in-cylinder compressed gas charge of air and recirculated exhaust that has a temperature high enough to initiate and sustain combustion of diesel fuel that is subsequently injected. High temperature and low temperature EGR heat exchangers are arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation passage serially relative to one another upstream from the pump. A water separator is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation passage fluidly between the heat exchanger and the pump. An EGR catalyst is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation passage upstream from the heat exchanger.

Oil Cooled Internal Combustion Engine Cylinder Liner And Method Of Use
An oil cooled cylinder liner, a method for cooling the same, and an opposed piston engine using the oil cooled cylinder liner are described. The cylinder liner includes a liner wall that has an inner face adjacent a piston bore and an outer face including an oil gallery surface. A plurality of grooves are disposed along the oil gallery surface. The grooves run parallel to each other and are spaced apart by bridging portions of the liner wall. At least some of the grooves have at least one fin disposed therein that runs parallel with the grooves. The grooves in combination with the fins increase surface area of the oil gallery to improve heat transfer from the liner wall to oil disposed along the oil gallery surface.
