Abstract:A page for sending to a client process from a server during network management incorporates a form having a plurality of input fields and a submit button. The form is associated with either a first submit method or a second submit method. The first submit method is for obtaining information about a state of a particular network device. The second submit method is for changing the state of a particular network device. The page is sent to the client process. In response to activation of the submit button in the client process, routines are executed to operate on the particular network device based on which submit method was associated with the form. Using these techniques, a single set of input fields can be designed for both displaying and editing the state of network devices.

Abstract:Methods apparatus and computer programs products for creating a multimedia presentation having video frames and video segments with synchronized audio are disclosed. Audio-video data is separated into an audio stream and the video sequence. The video sequence is divided into video segments, with each video segment comprising a group of frames. For each video segment an audio significance measure is calculated using the audio stream. Using the audio significance measure, the video segment is selected in its entirety or, alternatively, one or more slide frames are extracted from the corresponding group of frames. The selection of video segments or slide frames can also be performed on the basis of an additional video significance measure. The audio stream and selected video segment and slide frames are synchronized, then synchronously reproduced as the multimedia presentation.

Abstract:Cellular-telephone-based servers are provided that have reduced power consumption. When a cellular-telephone-based server is active, the server may maintain an Internet Protocol (IP) link with a communications network. When no users are connected to the server or at other appropriate times, the cellular-telephone-based server may enter a hibernation state to reduce power consumption. In the hibernation state, the cellular telephone that is running the server may maintain a communications link that supports short messaging service (SMS) messaging and may maintain a communications link associated with control channels that convey control data for cellular telephone communications. A user wishing to connect to the server may send an SMS address request to the server to obtain its IP address. If the server is hibernating, a service controller can activate the server before responding to the SMS address request.

Abstract:A wireless local area network access point is provided that authenticates users using fingerprint recognition. Users may register fingerprints with the wireless access point with the assistance of an authorized system administrator. When a registered user attempts to access the network, the user may be prompted to provide a fingerprint scan. A fingerprint reader in the user's equipment may be used to capture the user's fingerprint. The captured fingerprint may be submitted to the wireless access point for comparison with a database of fingerprints of authorized users. If the captured fingerprint is valid, the user may be granted wireless network access by the access point.

Abstract:Techniques for developing device-centric network management applications include a template. A computer platform includes one or more processors and an operating system. The template includes one or more sequences of statements of a platform-dependent scripting language. The statements are processed by a Web server executing on the platform. The statements cause the Web server to define a plurality of standard management methods and call at least a first standard management method. The statements also cause the Web server to define page level variables for holding in memory values used as parameters for the standard management methods. The template also includes a place to insert application-specific statements for presenting network information to a Web-based client process and for receiving input from the Web-based client process. A developer inserts the application-specific statements. The resulting Web resource is stored on a Windows platform connected to the network for access by a Web server on the platform in response to a request from the Web-based client process.
