An evaporative pre-cooling system for increasing the efficiency of a residential air conditioner condensing unit utilizing a wet medium in contact with low velocity moving air allowing evaporation to occur across the wet medium thereby reducing the associated dry bulb air temperature of the air moving across the wet pad as the air absorbs moisture. In the present invention, the embodiment of the pre-cooling apparatus encapsulates the condensing unit with a wet cellulose media, water not absorbed during the evaporation cycle is recycled, and water generated by the evaporator coil is discharged into the sump to further reduce tap water consumption. In the embodiment of the present invention, the wet pre-cool mode is thermostatically in parallel with the electrical circuit energizing the pre-cooler system in tandem with the air conditioning compressor motor. The embodiment of the pre-cooling apparatus is constructed of cellulose evaporative pads, plastic top, plastic upper distribution channels, plastic lower water recovery channels, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) piping and fittings for water distribution, plastic frame, PVC for water drains, plastic sump reservoir, and plastic close-off panels providing total recyclability of the embodiment of the complete evaporative pre-cooler enclosure apparatus.
Method And Apparatus For Cleaning Tubes Of Heat Exchangers
Apparatus and method are provided for on-line cleaning of the tubes of a heat exchanger. Tube cleaners are comprised of two members, a rigid flotation member and an elastomeric cleaning member. The cleaner has a selected density to allow uniform distribution through the tubes and to allow recovery by surface extraction or by strainers. Pressures as the cleaner enters or flows along a tube may be measured and selected.

Abstract:
A boom system having a flexible barrier is supported by floats on offset arms. The offset arms and floats thereon are mounted to the barrier in a manner which allows the angle between the barrier and the offset arms to be easily varied. The orientation of the barrier with respect to the surface the boom system is disposed on can thus be easily varied to account for variations in wind, waves and currents. Furthermore, the orientation of the barrier is controlled without the use of ballast weights.
Apparatus and method are provided for removing hard-body cleaners from cooling water downstream of a heat exchanger. The bodies are removed from the cooling water by a screen placed such that water flowing in and out of a container which is open to the atmosphere flows through the screen. Bar rake screens, traveling screens or other stationary forms of screens may be used. The cleaning bodies are removed from the screen by mechanical, gravity or fluid flow forces, and then may be recirculated to a heat exchanger.
