Abstract:
A power transfer unit assembly for a vehicle is provided comprising a first input shaft providing rotational drive. A second input shaft is in communication with a gear train assembly which is in communication with a propshaft. A selective engagement element is movable between an engagement position wherein the second input shaft is placed in rotational communication with the first input shaft and a disengagement position wherein the second input shaft is disengaged from the first input shaft. An actuator assembly moves the selective engagement element into the engagement position for all wheel drive mode and into the disengagement position for two wheel drive mode.

Abstract:
A power transfer unit for transferring a torque comprising a first shaft configured to receive the torque from a first device, a second shaft configured to output the torque to a second device, and an activating assembly for selectively transferring the torque from the first shaft to the second shaft. The activating assembly includes a sliding cam, a rotating cam, an actuator configured to selectively rotate the rotating cam relative to the sliding cam, and an engaging gear. The gear is configured to be moved by the sliding cam between a first engaged position where the torque is transferred from the first shaft to the second shaft through the gear and a second disengaged position where no torque is transferred to the second shaft. Relative rotation between the rotating earn and the sliding cam moves the sliding earn thereby moving the gear between the first engaged and second disengaged position.

Abstract:
An automotive driveline component has a housing and a shipping cap. The automotive driveline component can be a component of a power transfer unit (PTU), a final drive unit (FDU), a rear drive module (RDM), or a drive shaft. The housing has a wall that partly or more defines an opening. The opening is open to an exterior of the housing when the automotive driveline component is in an uninstalled state. The shipping cap can be temporarily secured in the opening. The shipping cap has a liquid collector for precluding residual lubricant in the housing from pooling at the opening. The liquid collector can be in the form of a sump, an absorbent material, or both.
