Abstract:
A mechatronic device, such as a rod-style linear actuator, is disclosed having a shock absorber. In embodiments, the device includes a threaded screw that, when rotated, is also forced to move linearly. A drive nut assembly is disposed about the screw and includes a planetary roller assembly with planetary rollers with threading that engage the threaded screw. The shock absorber is disposed linearly adjacent to the planetary roller assembly and is configured to absorb and/or dissipate a static shock load transmitted through the device so as to protect the screw. The shock absorber may be a polymeric cylindrical member disposed about the screw and contacting the planetary roller assembly via springs.

Abstract:
A carriage assembly includes a housing having first and second pieces each defining a recess that has a bearing surface with raised dimples. The first and second pieces are assembled to each other such that the recesses are aligned to form a cylindrical hole. A bushing is received in the hole and has an outer surface disposed against the dimples of the first and second pieces. The dimples are deformed during assembly to secure and locate the bushing within the cylindrical hole.

Abstract:
A power steering system for a watercraft includes an electromechanical rotary actuator mounted within a cylindrical housing. The electromechanical rotary actuator includes a motor and a gearing system. The housing, along with a stern bracket and an output flange, are sized and arranged to permit steering movements and trim/tilt movements of an outboard motor. The power steering system may include one or more of a redundant linear actuator, a trim/tilt mechanism, and a control system.

Abstract:
A disengageable lead screw nut assembly for a lead screw assembly is provided. The disengageable lead screw nut assembly includes a housing, and first and second electromagnets mounted on opposing sides of the housing. First and second lead screw nut parts are arranged in proximity to the respective first and second electromagnets, the first and second lead screw nut parts are movable between a first, lead screw engagement position, and a second, disengaged position. Springs are located in the housing that bias the first and second lead screw nut parts toward one of the first and second positions, and the lead screw nut parts are movable against a force of the respective springs to the other of the first and second positions upon activation of the electromagnets. In the first, lead screw engagement position, a lead screw engagement path is defined between the first and second lead screw nut parts.
