Abstract:

Concentrating solar collector systems that utilize a concentrating reflector to direct incident solar radiation to a solar receiver are described. In one aspect, the reflective surface is arranged to direct light to the receiver in a non-imaging manner in which the solar rays reflected from the opposing edges of the reflective surface are generally directed towards a central portion of the solar receiver. Rays reflected from selected central portions of the reflective surface are directed closer to the edges of the receiver than the solar rays reflected from the edges of the reflective surface. The described reflectors are generally intended for use in solar collector systems that track movements of the sun along at least one axis.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, a concentrating solar energy collector, which tracks movements of the sun along one axis has a reflective trough, at least one solar receiver mounted above the reflective trough and configured so that incident sunlight striking the reflective trough is directed toward the at least one solar receiver, and a reflector extender coupled to a first end of the reflective trough and configured to capture and direct incident sunlight towards the at least one solar receiver. In another embodiment, one or more extended end reflectors is attached with a reflective trough of a solar energy collector.

Abstract:

The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for rapid analysis of members of a combinatorial library. The apparatus includes a plurality of reactor vessels for containing individual library members, a fluid handling system that apportions a test fluid about equally between each of the vessels and a housing for enclosing the reactor vessels, the housing defining a pressure chamber, wherein the housing is configured to sustain a pressure substantially above atmospheric pressure. This allows for simultaneous screening of library members at high pressure by providing a small pressure differential on reactor components. The disclosed apparatus is especially useful for screening library members based on their ability to catalyze the conversion of fluid reactants.

Abstract:

An apparatus for parallel processing of reaction mixtures comprises a plurality of vessels for holding a plurality of reaction mixtures for processing. A plurality of vessel supports are adapted for supporting the plurality of vessels. Caps sealingly engage the vessel supports for sealing the vessels within the vessel supports. The vessels, vessel supports, and caps define reaction chambers having bearings and stirrers rotatable therein. The stirrers each comprise a spindle rotatable in a respective bearing and at least one stirring implement extending from the spindle for contacting a respective reaction mixture. The stirrers further comprise at least one magnet adapted to be subjected to a rotating magnetic field in the vessel for causing the stirrer to rotate thereby to mix the respective reaction mixture. The stirrers may further comprise a first magnetic follower, a second magnetic follower, and a flux guide for guiding magnetic flux between the first magnetic follower and the second magnetic follower, thereby creating a magnetic flux path between the stirrer and a respective one of a plurality of magnetic drivers coupled to the stirrers for rotating the stirrers within the vessels.
