Abstract:

A communication system () includes a first communication unit () capable of communicating over a full-duplex persistent-connection link provided by a full-duplex network () and a second communication unit () capable of communicating over a half-duplex dispatch link provided by a dispatch RF system (). The system () also includes a dispatch gateway (). The dispatch gateway () receives signals from a first communication unit () over a full-duplex persistent link through a full-duplex network () and provides communication between the first communication unit and a single dispatch communication unit () or a group of dispatch communication units () over a half-duplex communication link through a dispatch RF system (). Abstract:

A method for delivering content to be rendered by multiple devices is provided. Indications of resources available to a user are received, the resources including rendering resources, the rendering resources provided by a plurality of devices, each of the plurality of devices being coupled to a network, wherein at least one of the plurality of devices provides at least one rendering resource available for use of the user, and provides at least one rendering resource available for simultaneous use of another user. Content requested by the user is received, the content including a plurality of content types. A mapping of content types to the plurality of devices is determined, wherein the mapping is based on rendering resources provided by each of the plurality of devices. Content types of the content requested by the user are delivered to the plurality of devices according to the mapping, the content types delivered to the plurality of devices via the network.

Abstract:

A method for operating an edge router in a network that provides multiple levels of service is provided. In response to receiving packets, the edge router determines a corresponding packet flow. An incremental utility for each packet is then calculated, and each packet is labeled as a function of the incremental utility. The packets are then forwarded to core routers in the network, where they are processed based on the labels. The incremental utility can be based on a utility function corresponding to the flow and intra-flow priorities associated with the packets.

Abstract:

A method for operating a core router that provides multiple levels of service to packets is provided. The core router receives packets from input links, and accepts or drops them based on the level of congestion in the outgoing link it is destined for. The level of congestion is determined by comparing the queue length of the output queue of the link with a configurable maximum queue length, and by comparing the rate at which the queue length is increasing with a configurable maximum rate of queue length increase. A threshold value is computed based on the above measurements, and this value is updated periodically based on the level of congestion in the system.

Abstract:

An independent server is established to track the state of content being rendered on a client device. A content server (alternatively referred to as an application server) maintains a backchannel with the independent server and updates session state. When migrating content from a first client device to a second client device, the second client device will access the server prior to rendering the content. Abstract:

A method and a system for live broadcast of digital content to a user switching between one or more electronic devices are provided. Each electronic device is connected to a network. The user makes a request to switch the live broadcast of the digital content from a first electronic device to one or more electronic devices in the network. The live broadcast of the digital content on the first electronic device is suspended based on the request from the user. The first electronic device informs at least one electronic device in the network to pre-emptively store the live broadcast of the digital content. The live broadcast of the digital content is then resumed on the one or more electronic devices, based on another request from the user.

Abstract:

The present invention addresses the need for providing dispatch service to dispatch clients via a packet-switched network, such as the Internet, by disclosing a network dispatch manager, a dispatch gateway, a method for a network dispatch manager to provide dispatch service, and a method for a dispatch gateway to provide dispatch service. Dispatch service is provided via a multicast capable, packet-switched network (114) connecting a network dispatch manager (112) to dispatch gateways (115-116) and a packet-switched network (120), such as the Internet, connecting the dispatch gateways to dispatch clients (124,126). The network dispatch manager (112) assigns a multicast group to each dispatch gateway and uses the multicast group to multicast voice packets to the dispatch gateways (115-116). The dispatch gateways (115-116), in turn, perform any required packet duplication needed to forward the voice packets, via the packet-switched network (120), to the dispatch clients involved in the dispatch call. Thus, dispatch service can be provided to dispatch clients in addition to wireless devices.
