A spread polarization transmitter for transmitting at least one light signal comprises a spread-spectrum communication apparatus and a polarization modulator. The spread-spectrum communication apparatus modulates the at least one light signal according to a spread-spectrum modulation technique. The polarization modulator comprises a polarizer and a magnetic bubble waveguide. The polarizer is capable of polarizing the at least one spread-spectrum modulated light signal in a polarized direction. And the magnetic bubble waveguide, which is configured in accordance with a pseudo-random polarization code sequence such that the plurality of magnetic bubble domains assume a time varying position representative of the pseudo-random polarization code sequence, is capable of receiving at least one polarized, spread-spectrum modulated light signal. Thereafter, the magnetic bubble waveguide is capable of at least partially rotating the polarized, spread-spectrum modulated light signals by a predetermined angle from the polarized direction during transmission therethrough to create spread polarization modulated light signals.

Abstract:
A diode laser for providing a high-energy coherent light beam suitably includes an array of laser diodes, each producing a laser beamlet. The beamlets are provided to a spatial light modulator (SLM) with an array of pixels, each pixel corresponding to a portion of the light beam. The phase variation across the light beam wavefront is monitored at a detector, and a feedback signal indicative of the phase variation is provided to control electronics. The control electronics process the feedback signal to modulate a local index of refraction within one or more pixels of the SLM to reduce the variation in phase across the beam wavefront. Because phase variations across the beam wavefront are reduced, relatively large diode arrays can be formulated, thereby resulting in relatively high powered diode lasers.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a more robust flat panel display by using the Faraday effect to control light emission from a solid state material so as to form two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. Flux tubes can be configured to define a two dimensional array. Each flux tube is somewhat analogous to a single bubble of a magnetic bubble memory and can define a pixel. At least some aspect of light transmitted through a flux tube can be varied thereby, so as to facilitate the formation of an image.

Intensity Thresholding-Based Image Modification For Computer Vision
A computer vision method performed by a computing system includes: receiving an image; identifying a light intensity value for each pixel of a set of pixels of the image; defining a light intensity band formed by an upper light intensity threshold and a lower light intensity threshold based on a light intensity distribution of the light intensity values of the set of pixels; for each pixel of the set of pixels, identifying whether that pixel has a light intensity value that is within the light intensity band or outside of the intensity band; and generating a modified image by increasing a light intensity contrast between a first subset of pixels identified as having light intensity values within the light intensity band and a second subset of pixels identified as having light intensity values outside of the light intensity band.

Abstract:
A computer vision method and computer vision system can be used to process a time-based series of images. For a subject image of the time-based series, a light intensity value is identified for each pixel of a set of pixels of the subject image. A light intensity threshold is defined for the subject image based on a size of a bounding region for an object detected within a previous image of the time-based series captured before the subject image. A modified image is generated for the subject image by one or both of: reducing the light intensity value of each pixel of a lower intensity subset of pixels of the subject image that is less than the light intensity threshold, and increasing the light intensity value of each pixel of a higher intensity subset of pixels of the subject image that is greater than the light intensity threshold.
