Abstract:

A measuring device to determine the depth of sediment in the floor of a buried pipe and the rate of flow of water through the pipe. The device includes a first shaft with a sleeve telescoped on the shaft with the lower end of the shaft being adapted to engage the floor of the pipe and with the lower end of the sleeve being adapted to rest on the surface of sediment in the pipe so that the relative axial displacement of the sleeve in relation to the pipe will measure the depth of sediment in the floor and a float which is connected to the sleeve and includes a lift member for raising and lowering the float on a suspension means which is operably connected to a switch so that when tension on the suspension means is relaxed when the float is supported by the water instead of a suspension means, energy from a source flows through the switch and indicates the relaxation of the tension and on the float there is provided a member which is movable in response to the rate of water flow through the pipe and which is connected to an electrical circuit to indicate the rate of flow of water through the pipe.

Abstract:

A volumetric flow measuring device to measure liquid flowing in a pipe wherein a control pipe is sized for receipt in telescoping relation in the pipe and includes seal means to engage the pipe and to constrain flow through the pipe into and out of the control pipe. The control pipe is of a predetermined cross sectional area and a float member is captivated within the pipe to rise and fall depending upon the water level in the control pipe and the float includes a liquid flow velocity measuring device including a paddle wheel journaled on the float with a portion extending below it to move in response to fluid flow beneath the float and the device further includes a liquid depth measuring device to monitor the level of the float in the pipe and hence the liquid level in the pipe. The device further includes a recording device to record the level of the float in the control pipe as measured by the measuring device and, also, the flow past the float.

Abstract:

An anti-clogging flume and structure for metering fluid flow over the flume wherein the flume is of a length sized to be inserted within a pipe and which flume has a generally cylindrical opening as an inlet at one end and a V-shaped outlet at the other end and the flume converges from the inlet end smoothly inwardly and upwardly to the outlet end with a spillway being defined at the outlet end, the spillway outlet being elevated with respect to the lowermost portion of the flume at the inlet end, and structure exterior of the flume for introducing gas into the flume adjacent the inlet end through a hole in the lowermost portion to bubble the gas through the flow along the flume adapting it for use with a recording device to meter, measure and record flow of water through the flume.
