Abstract:

An improved charge amplifier ( ) for use in a MOS imaging array is disclosed. The charge amplifier comprises a reference capacitor (C ), a sense capacitor (C ), an operational amplifier ( ), a first output capacitor (C ) connected to the output of the operational amplifier, a second output capacitor (C ) connected to the output of the operational amplifier, and a differential amplifier ( ) connected to the first output capacitor and said second output capacitor. In operation, the reference capacitor is charged to a reference voltage. Similarly, the sense capacitor is charged to a reference voltage. Both the sense capacitor and the reference capacitor are formed to be identical. However, the reference capacitor is covered from ambient light and the sense capacitor is exposed to ambient light. As ambient light is incident on the sense capacitor, the voltage carried by the sense capacitor diminishes. After a predetermined exposure time, both the voltage stored across the reference capacitor and the sense capacitor is amplified by the operational amplifier.

Abstract:

A method and system for manufacturing a perpendicular magnetic recording transducer by a process that includes plating is described. The method and system include forming a chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) uniformity structure around a perpendicular magnetic recording pole. The CMP uniformity structure has a height substantially equal to a desired pole height. The method and system also include fabricating an insulator on the CMP uniformity structure and performing a CMP to remove a portion of the insulator. The CMP exposes a portion of the perpendicular magnetic recording pole and planarizes an exposed surface of the perpendicular magnetic recording transducer.

Abstract:

Methods are provided for fabricating an electrical lapping guide, and for using the electrical lapping guide to fabricate a transducer of a magnetic recording head. Additionally, transducers comprising an electrical lapping guide are also provided. Methods of fabricating the electrical lapping guide comprise forming a resistive element proximate to a shield pedestal. Accordingly, the resistive element is both aligned with the shield pedestal in a transverse direction, and closely spaced from the shield pedestal in a longitudinal direction. The resistance of the resistive element correlates well with a throat height of the shield pedestal, and the correlation is utilized in the methods of fabricating the transducer. When a magnetoresistive stripe is uses as a second electrical lapping guide while fabricating the transducer, the two can be used to control a tilt angle in the transverse direction during lapping.

Abstract:

An integrated circuit controller for controlling the operation of a voltage converter which includes a first comparator for comparing a voltage associated with an input of a boost converter with a threshold voltage and generating a control signal in response thereto. A second comparator compares a second voltage associated with an output of the boost converter with the threshold voltage and generates a second control signal in response thereto. Driver circuitry generates a first switching transistor drive signal and a second switching transistor drive signal. The first switching transistor drive signal is used for driving an upper gate switching transistor of a buck converter. The second switching transistor drive signal may be configured in a first mode of operation to drive a lower gate switching transistor of the buck converter and may be configured in a second mode of operation to drive a switching transistor of the boost converter. Control logic enables/disables at least a portion of the driver circuitry responsive to the control signal and the second control signal.
