Abstract:
A process for selectively removing carbon dioxide from a gaseous stream by converting the carbon dioxide to a solid, stable form is provided. In a sequestration process, carbon dioxide enriched air is passed through a gas diffusion membrane to transfer the carbon dioxide to a fluid medium. The carbon dioxide rich fluid is then passed through a matrix containing a catalyst specific for carbon dioxide, which accelerates the conversion of the carbon dioxide to carbonic acid. In the final step, a mineral ion is added to the reaction so that a precipitate of carbonate salt is formed. This solid mineral precipitate can be safely stored for extended periods of time, such as by burying the precipitate in the ground or depositing the precipitate into storage sites either on land or into a body of water. An apparatus for removing carbon dioxide from a gaseous stream is also provided.

The nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO) content of lean-burn engine exhaust is beneficially prepared for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of these oxides to nitrogen by two sidestream additions to the exhaust. An ozone-containing air stream is added to the exhaust to affect oxidation of NO to NO. And a hydrocarbon(s) fuel constituent is added to a second humidified ozone-containing air stream and that mixture subjected to UV radiation. Strongly oxidizing hydroxyl radicals are formed by interaction of ozone, water, and UV radiation for reaction with the hydrocarbon. The resulting partially oxidized hydrocarbons (Pox) are added to the exhaust, providing effective reduction materials for the SCR of NOto nitrogen and water.
A fluidized-bed reactor comprising a chamber defining a hollow interior region and having a lower surface; a first input for introducing a contaminated gas into the hollow interior region; a plurality of catalyst nanoparticles within the hollow interior region and located on the lower surface, and a fluidizing input for introducing a fluidizing material into the hollow interior region, said fluidizing input having an outlet directed at the lower surface of the chamber, wherein the introduction of the fluidizing material directed at the lower surface fluidizes at least a portion of the catalyst nanoparticles located on the lower surface to create a gaseous dispersion of catalyst nanoparticles that reacts with the contaminated gas to produce a decontaminated gas.

Abstract:
An immobilized protein catalyst is prepared by applying an adhesive to a polymeric support, applying a layer of a globular protein over the layer of adhesive, binding a crosslinking agent to the protein layer, and binding the protein catalyst by reaction with the crosslinking agent.
Ozone and, if necessary, water is added to an exhaust gas, such as air, containing hydrogen- and carbon-containing molecules of a pollutant. The exhaust gas is then continually flowed into one or more oxidizing reaction chamber modules. In the reaction chamber(s) the ozone- and water-containing gas is subjected to intense ultraviolet radiation (wavelength of 254 nm) to promote the formation of hydroxyl radicals to oxidize the pollutant molecules to carbon dioxide and water. The continually discharged gas is analyzed for residual ozone and hydrocarbon content and the analytical data used in feedback control of ozone addition and UV radiation intensity.

Abstract:
Method of making porous, fibrillose bodies from fibrils bonded together into a self-supporting structure. A mixture of fibrils and a viscous, non-newtonian, liquid vehicle including an organic hydrosorbent and water is (1) injected into a mold, (2) frozen in the mold to form a frozen precursor of the article, (3) ejected from the mold while still frozen, (4) freeze-dried, and (5) finally heated to remove the hydrosorbent and bond the particles together. The process is particularly effective for making fibrillose preforms for infiltrating with metal in the manufacture of metal matrix composites.

Were in uncharted territory, said Kenneth Gross, a former associate general counsel at the Federal Election Commission. And when you get into the heat of battle and the stakes are as high as they possibly can be in terms of who will be the nominee, people are going to push the envelope.

The setup, though, is unorthodox and Kenneth Gross, a campaign finance attorney and former associate general counsel at the FEC, said he had never heard of a network of linked super PACs with the same treasurer and near identical names.
