Abstract:

The present invention relates to a system and method for merchant's benefit-focused electronic coupon distribution business. The invention provides an online platform connecting merchants to targeted consumers without sales people. The online platform provides merchants with profile pages where the merchants can manage and sell coupon offerings. Consumers can search and purchase one-time use coupons based on the coupon offerings. Each one-time use coupon carries unique identification number and code, and the coupon is tracked to provide information back to registered merchants. This invention minimizes the risk and marketing promotion cost by shifting the burden of marketing cost to the consumers' side. Instead of paving for marketing costs upfront, merchants receive micropayments from consumers through coupon offerings and selling one-time use coupons. This invention creates a get-paid-to-participate-marketing for merchants, and ways to access more discounts from more local businesses for consumers.

Abstract:

A method of and apparatus for measuring a stimulus, e. g. a force, applied to a piezoelectric transducer. The method comprises sampling the output of the transducer in response to the stimulus at intervals during application of the stimulus, resetting the output of the transducer to a predetermined value immediately following each sampling step, and summing the values of the sampled transducer output for each sampling step to provide a value indicative of the total applied stimulus. The apparatus of the invention comprises a sensor for sensing the transducer output in response to the stimulus a sampling circuit for sampling the sensed output at intervals during application of the force, a switch for resetting the output of transducer to a predetermined value immediately following each sampling operation, and circuitry for summing the values of the sampled transducer output for each sampling step and generating from them an output value indicative of the total applied stimulus.

Abstract:

An electrostatic image display apparatus which uses piezoelectric film to enable a user to form images on a screen. The apparatus is contained within a housing. Supported within the housing is a common electrode. A layer of piezoelectric film is separated a distance from the common electrode by a suspension medium. The suspension medium contains electrially charged pigmented particles, the color of which contrasts with the color of the suspension medium. The housing has an opening for applying localized pressure to one surface of the piezoelectric film. In addition, the apparatus has a source for energizing the common electrode to a preselected electric potential. By applying a force or infrared energy to an area of the piezoelectric film a charge accumules on the inner surface of the film, directly under the point of application of the force. This charge attracts the electrically charged pigmented particles in the suspension medium which are visible through the film and create an image display.

A short distance ultrasonic distance meter is disclosed with provisions to reduce the ill-effects of ringing when measurements are of obstacles closer than about ten inches. In one embodiment an opposite phase ultrasonic wave is introduced by a circuit (245) and in another embodiment a strain sensor (232) introduces negative feedback to effect cancellation of ringing (147). Abstract:

An ultrasonic distance meter cancels out the effects of temperature and humidity variations by including a measuring unit and a reference unit. In each of the units, a repetitive series of pulses is generated, each having a repetition rate directly related to the respective distance between an electroacoustic transmitter and an electroacoustic receiver. The pulse trains are provided to respective counters, and the ratio of the counter outputs is utilized to determine the distance being measured.
