Abstract:

A piezoelectric lighter with a child resistant ignition mechanism which prevents accidental ignition and ignition by unintended users and by minor children under the age of 5 years. The safety ignition mechanism is an activation device that requires two displacements in order to ignite the lighter. The displacements are achieved by applying a continuous and increasing force to the activating component in order to ignite the lighter. The first displacement unlocks the ignition device and the second displacement initiates simultaneously an electrical discharge and a fuel discharge, which results in a flame. Whenever a user discontinues the application of force to the activating component, the ignition mechanism returns to an inoperable, locked position. The effectiveness of this activating device in resisting the manipulations of children under the age of 5 years has been established by tests performed pursuant to the requirements of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Abstract:

Disclosed is an actuator for a piezoelectric cigarette or utility lighter with a LED penlight incorporated as an independent light source. The actuator is located at the top of a standard piezoelectric lighter behind the lighter's burner. The actuator activates the lighter when it is depressed and makes contact with a piezoelectric unit that initiates release of gas into the burner while simultaneously emitting a spark in the area of the burner to ignite the gas. The penlight feature consists of an LED light assembly incorporated into the actuator's top cap situated so as to depress the piezoelectric unit. The LED light assembly consists of a light emitting diode mounted on a platform, the whole of which is configured to fit within the LED top cap whereby the platform is a bottom wall of the LED top cap and contains a power source in the form of a battery holder that fits between the piezoelectric unit and the outer casing of the lighter. A pressure switch on the actuator operates the penlight.

Abstract:

An improved portable cigar extinguisher and saver device consisting of an assembly of two hollow, cylindrical tube sections coupled together in a slidable, telescopic manner capable of being hermetically sealed by a movable top cap attached to the top tube section and a detachable bottom cap on the bottom tube section. The device can be sealed airtight and shortened or lengthened telescopically, thereby eliminating the space and air within to quickly extinguish a lit cigar and preserve it for later consumption, or to carry a fresh, unsmoked cigar. The device provides cigar smokers with a convenient, socially and environmentally friendly device for extinguishing and carrying a partially consumed cigar.
