Abstract:

A directional small part transporter and sorter simultaneously imparts upon a part-carrying platen reciprocating movements along one or two horizontal axis perpendicular to each other and a third vertical axis. A stack of slidingly coupled carriages are each independently driven by a stepping motor. Each motor is coupled to a carriage by means of a mechanism that translates the rotation of the motor into a linear translation of the coupled carriage by means of a worm screw or transmission belt. An electronic module controlled by a data processor allows for adjustment of the duration, amplitude, frequency and phase relationship of the three periodical movements of the platen. A part reservoir along the platen can be either raised to deliver parts onto the platen or lowered below the platen ledge to receive parts off the platen. The transporter and sorter may be used in connection with various electronic component manufacturing processes.

Abstract:

A system for measuring and cutting includes a portable measuring unit and a cutting unit. The measuring unit includes a transmitter and a measuring processor in communication with the transmitter. The measuring unit includes a first retractable tape measure having a first variable resistance wire and a sensor, the measuring processor having programming for determining first distance data and for transmitting that data. The cutting unit includes a saw and a receiver for receiving the first distance data transmitted from the measuring unit. The cutting unit includes a second tape measure with a second variable resistance wire, sensor, and processor for determining a second distance. When the second distance measurement is equal to the first distance measurement, an indicator is actuated so the user knows to actuate the saw to cut the workpiece. The system, therefore, eliminates inaccurate measurements and the need to remember or record measurements.

Abstract:

A vehicle axle includes an axle housing defining a cavity. The axle includes a pair of outer drive shafts, each being coaxially received in a respective housing cavity and slidable therein, each outer drive shaft defining a splined cavity. The axle includes a pair of inner drive shafts, each having a splined end coaxially coupled to a respective outer drive shaft splined cavity such that a respective outer drive shaft is slidably movable therein. A piston is attached to the inner end of each outer drive shaft and separates an inner fluid chamber from an outer fluid chamber. A fluid channel includes opposed ends in communication with respective fluid chambers. A force absorption container is in fluid communication with each fluid channel and includes a compression spring, wherein the spring is compressed when movement of the piston pushes fluid through the channel into the force absorption container.

Abstract:

A vehicle axle includes a main axle having an end defining a splined cavity. The vehicle axle further includes a splined shaft coaxial with the main axle, the splined shaft having a configuration that is complementary to a configuration of the splined cavity. The shaft and the main axle are coupled together by the shaft splines and the cavity splines, the shaft being movable relative to the main axle along the axis. The vehicle axle includes a force-absorbing member located inside the splined cavity and being in communication with the main axle and the splined shaft so as to absorb force when the splined shaft moves toward the main axle past an equilibrium point.

Abstract:

An engine combustion system includes a power cylinder and a gear assembly, the piston having respective intake and exhaust valves. The power cylinder includes a connecting rod pivotally attached to a bottom of the piston and extends vertically downwardly in vertical alignment with a gear assembly. A movable rack gear is coupled to the connecting rod and in communication with a rotatably mounted central gear. When an air/fuel mixture is ignited within the power cylinder fuel chamber, the connecting rod is urged downward causing linear movement of the rack gear in operative communication with the rotatably mounted central gear such that the power generated thereby is translated to a vehicle transmission or power train without angular inefficiency of a traditional crankshaft system.
