Abstract:

A system for a clinical lab that is capable of automatically processing, including sorting, of multiple specimen containers. The system comprises a central controller, a workstation, one or more analyzers, and an automated centrifuge. The workstation has automatic detectors for detecting the presence of a holder holding specimen containers. The workstation has a bar code reader for reading bar codes on the containers. The system has a transport subsystem, preferably a workstation robotic arm and an analyzer robotic arm for transporting the specimen containers, moving them to and from the workstation, to and from the analyzers, and to and from the centrifuge. The centrifuge is loaded with buckets containing specimen containers. The workstation can be provided with a balance system for balancing the weight of the buckets used. The workstation can also have a decapper for automatically removing caps from the specimen containers.

Abstract:

A system and method for non-contact specimen container characterization includes a processor, and a specimen container diameter sensor, and a specimen container length sensor. The non-contact specimen container can also include a cap color sensor. The sensors are located in a fixed position relative to a conveyor for transporting a plurality of specimen containers.Another embodiment is directed to a system and method for detecting centrifuge imbalance along multiple axes. First, second and third comparators compare an accelerometer output corresponding to x-, y- and z-axes with reference voltage levels. The outputs are used to determine whether to discontinue operation of the centrifuge. The outputs can also be used to generate alerts.

Abstract:

Acoustic tags and a process for fabrication are disclosed for identifying and tracking various hosts including inanimate and animate objects in up to three dimensions. The acoustic tags may be powered by a single power source. Tags can have an operation lifetime of up to 90 days or longer at a transmission rate of 3 seconds. The acoustic tags have an enhanced signal range that enhances detection probability when tracking the hosts.
