Abstract:

A method and system for providing automated diagnostics of networks using multiple virtual circuits are disclosed. For example, the method receives a ticket indicating a problem. The method then determines if the problem is associated with a configuration mismatch and determines if the problem is associated with at least one physical channel supporting a plurality of virtual circuits. The method then verifies status of each of the plurality of virtual circuits if the problem is not associated with the configuration mismatch or the at least one physical channel. The method then reports a result of verifying the status of each of the plurality of virtual circuits.

Abstract:

According to one method for identifying and resolving a silent failure in a telecommunications network, performance data associated with data traffic passing through a network element in the telecommunications network is collected. A determination is made whether the performance data has fallen below a threshold to identify the silent failure at the network element. The silent failure fails to trigger an alarm included on the network element. Responsive to determining that the performance data is below the threshold and thereby identifying the silent failure at the network element, troubleshooting rules may be retrieved. The silent failure is resolved based on the performance data and the troubleshooting rules.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for addressing a congestion condition in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alert for at least one of: a trunk or a Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC), where the trunk or the PVC is associated with a route. The method determines whether the alert is associated with a congestion condition by determining whether a trunk utilization has exceeded a first predetermined threshold for the trunk or for the at least one trunk supporting the PVC. The method then rebuilds the route if the first predetermined threshold is exceeded for the trunk or for the at least one trunk supporting said PVC.

A method and apparatus for providing trouble isolation for a Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) on packet networks are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alert or a ticket for a Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) down or a PVC degraded and starts a correlation window for said PVC and port alert or ticket. The method then gathers a plurality of port and PVC alerts for a duration of said correlation window and determines whether or not a port down or a port degraded alert is received along with a PVC down or a PVC degraded alert in said correlation window for one or more ports associated with said PVC.
