Abstract:

A web cut-off assembly for a rewinder apparatus includes a bedroll having a pair of retractable bedroll blades that move to a protracted position to engage the web material for a web cutting event. A chopper roll is disposed proximate to the bedroll and includes a first blade and a second blade extending from a circumference thereof. The first and second blades rotationally intermeshing with the bedroll blades in the web cutting event. The second blade is configured to effectively stretch and hold the web relative to the bedroll blades as the first blade severs the web in the web cutting process.

Abstract:

A cut-off method and apparatus capable of breaking a moving web is disclosed herein. The cut-off method and apparatus include a conveying surface over which a moving web is conveyed and a web cut-off assembly opposing the conveying surface. The web cut-off assembly includes a first arm with a first web gripping surface and a second arm with a second web gripping surface, the first and second web gripping surfaces being movable relative to one another. To complete a breaking event, the first and second web gripping surfaces contact the moving web at a first contact point and second contact point. The contact points move from a first spaced apart relationship to a second spaced apart relationship causing a break in the web between the first and second web gripping surfaces.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a low-cost, in-line process for treating a fibrous web with a lotion. The process generally involves passing a web through a nip formed by a pair of opposed surfaces, where one of the surfaces has been treated with a lotion having a penetration hardness greater than 5.0 mm. As the web passes through the nip, the lotion is transferred from one of the opposed surfaces to the surface of the web. In certain instances, the web may have a textured surface and only a portion of the web's textured surface is treated with a lotion.

Abstract:

A web break apparatus is disclosed for cutting and severing a web. The web break apparatus includes a first rotating device that rotates generally at the same speed as a moving web. Positioned on the circumference of the first rotating device is a web engaging device and a straining element. When a web break is desired, the web engaging device and straining element are brought into contact with the web. The web engaging device engages the web, while the straining element causes a web break. The web break apparatus may be used in any suitable winding system. For instance, the winding system may be for winding a web to produce rolled products.

The present invention provides a perforating station comprising two or more discrete perforating stations, the stations synchronized with one another to cut a line of perforations across a web, such as a web of tissue paper, moving at high speeds. By providing two or more synchronized perforating stations the perforating station may increase the number of impacts per minute compared to prior art perforating devices.
