A cage assembly adapted to be implanted in a spinal column for treating degenerative or ruptured discs and replacing damaged vertebral bodies. The assembly includes one or more rigid cages formed in an annular configuration and having opposed upper and lower perimeter surfaces, an annular side wall extending between said surfaces, a transverse inner wall extending across said cage, a plurality of raised ridges projecting outwardly from each of said perimeter surfaces for engaging the spinal column and securing the assembly therein. Apertures are provided in the side wall for use in positioning said cage in the spinal column and a pair of aligned openings extend axially through the cage for packing the cage with bone graft material. At least one spacing element having the same annular configuration as the cages can be provided to effect the stacked attachment of one cage with another in rigid axial alignment.

A method of manufacturing a surgical implant includes simultaneously forming a first component and a second component of the surgical implant. Formation of the first and second components includes depositing a first quantity of material to a building platform and fusing the first quantity of material to form a first layer of the first and second components. The method of manufacturing also includes depositing a second quantity of material over the first layer of the first and second components and fusing the second quantity of material to form a second layer of the first and second components. The surgical implant is fully assembled upon the completion of the formation of the first and second components.

Abstract:
In some embodiments, a spinal implant () is provided and includes a body portion defining a longitudinal axis. The body portion includes a distal end portion, a proximal end portion, opposed side surfaces that extend between the distal and proximal end portions, and top and bottom surfaces configured and adapted to engage vertebral bodies. The top and bottom surfaces have a surface roughness between 3-4 μm. A cavity extends through the top and bottom surfaces defining a surface area that is at least 25% of a surface area of the top surface or the bottom surface. First orifices () are defined through the top surface and second orifices () are defined through the bottom surface. The second orifices are connected to the first orifices by a plurality of channels.
A retractor system includes a retractor device and a blade assembly. The retractor device includes a support and first and second arms. The retractor blade assembly includes first and second blades. Each of the first and second blades includes an elongate portion and a tubular portion. The elongate portion includes an engaging portion releasably coupled with the retractor device. The tubular portion extends distally from the elongate portion. The tubular portion defines a bore dimensioned to receive a housing of a bone screw. The tubular portion includes a clip deflectable radially outward. The clip is deflectable between a first state, in which, the clip is deflected radially outward such that the clip disengages the housing of the bone screw positioned in the tubular portion, and a second state, in which, the clip engages the housing of the bone screw positioned in the tubular portion.
