  • Abstract:
An improved sealing grommet for a spin-on type fluid filter has an annular flange coupled to an interior wall of the grommet body which sealingly engages filter adapter standpipes of varying diameters. An annular cavity, formed by the interior wall of the grommet body and the annular flange, allows pressurized fluid within the annular cavity to exert forces against the surface of the cavity to thereby enhance the sealing engagement between the filter element, the base plate and the filter adapter standpipe.

  • US Patent:
    61554316, Dec 5, 2000
  • Filed:
    May 3, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    9/304147
  • Inventors:
Brian J. Langsdorf - Perrysburg OH
    Christopher Reamsnyder - Ottawa OH
Richard R. Berkey - Toledo OH
  • Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
  • International Classification:
    B01D 3502
  • US Classification:
    210443
  • Abstract:
A filter assembly is provided having a housing defining a housing edge. A tapping plate is also provided and is generally circular in shape. The tapping plate defines a tapping plate edge and includes a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. Preferably, the at least one fluid outlet port is a central threaded aperture to enable the filter assembly to be secured to a filter mount of an engine. An interconnecting device is included for interconnecting the housing and the tapping plate. The interconnecting device further retains an external seal generally about the tapping plate edge. The external seal is an economically formed lathe-cut gasket and the interconnecting device includes a first and second extension member. The first extension member is formed integrally with the tapping plate at the tapping plate edge. The second extension member is formed integrally with the housing at the housing edge.
  • Resilient Oil Filter Seal With Pressure Relief Valves

    view source
  • US Patent:
    62142151, Apr 10, 2001
  • Filed:
    Mar 17, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    9/271137
  • Inventors:
Richard J. Berkey - Toledo OH
Allen B. Wright - Grand Rapids OH
  • Assignee:
    AlliedSignal Inc. - Morristown NJ
  • International Classification:
    B01D 2710
  • US Classification:
    210130
  • Abstract:
A flexibly resilient sealing member, incorporating integral pressure relief valves, for use in an oil filter assembly, includes a substantially annular body formed from a flexibly resilient material. The annular body has a central bore formed therein for surrounding an oil filter outlet. The annular body also has an upper surface with a plurality of normally closed slits formed therein, a shoulder portion around its top outer edge for sealing placement inside a cylindrical filter element, and a flow channel formed therethrough for each of the normally closed slits, each of the flow channels extending downwardly from one of the normally closed slits and terminating in an open inlet below the shoulder portion and outside of the central bore. The sealing member according to the present invention may further include an integral pedestal ring attached to the lower surface of the annular body adjacent the annular bore and extending downwardly therefrom, and a transverse flange attached to the outer surface of the annular body below the shoulder portion, and extending outwardly therefrom to limit entry of the sealing member into a filter element. In this embodiment, preferably, each of the flow channels extends from a bottom surface of the annular body above the pedestal ring, through the annular body; and communicates with one of the normally closed slits in the top surface of the annular body.
