A laser driver for generating drive waveforms that are suitable for driving a single VCSEL or an array of VCSELs. A digital controller is integrated into the laser driver and is utilized to initially program and selectively adjust during the operation of the driver one or more of the following VCSEL drive waveform parameters: (1) bias current, (2) modulation current, (3) negative peaking depth, and (4) negative peaking duration. The laser driver has an aging compensation mechanism for monitoring the age of the laser and for selectively adjusting the dc and ac parameters of the VCSEL drive waveform to compensate for the aging of the laser. The laser driver also has a temperature compensation mechanism for monitoring the temperature of the driver IC and selectively adjusting the dc and ac parameters of the VCSEL drive waveform to compensate for the changes in temperature.
Reference Voltage Pre-Charge In A Multi-Step Sub-Ranging Analog-To-Digital Converter
Multi-step sub-ranging analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) utilize a plurality of converter modules to generate sub-ranges of bits for a digital output signal during a multi-phase conversion cycle. Each subsequent converter utilizes reference voltage levels corresponding to conversions performed by prior converters during the timing phases of the conversion cycle. Settling time for these reference voltages, which limits the speed and/or accuracy of each conversion, may be reduced by pre-charging the reference input nodes of the subsequent converters using the analog input signal during a timing phase in which a prior converter is converting the analog input signal to generate one of the sub-ranges for the digital output signal.

Abstract:
An overvoltage protection circuit includes a shunt circuit adapted for connection to at least one circuit node to be protected from an overvoltage condition and a voltage generator coupled to the shunt circuit. The shunt circuit is selectively activated as a function of a control signal supplied to the shunt circuit. The voltage generator is operative to generate the control signal for activating the shunt circuit during the overvoltage condition. The control signal has a level which varies in a manner that at least partially changes offsets in activation threshold of the shunt circuit.

Abstract:
In one embodiment, a circuit for generating a reference voltage between a first output and a second output, has a first follower transistor that includes a first control node, a first follower node coupled to a first output, and a first supply node, and a second follower transistor that includes a second control node, a second follower node coupled to a second output and a second supply node. A first voltage drop circuit is coupled between a circuit supply node and the second supply node. The circuit is biased such that the voltage between the circuit supply node and the second supply node is greater than the voltage between the circuit supply node and the first supply node, and such that the voltage between the circuit supply node and the second control node is greater than the voltage between the circuit supply node and the first control node.

Abstract:
A file storage system may be implemented by coordinating non-exhaustible and exhaustible storage devices. The exhaustible storage devices may be lower grade flash based storage devices. The non-exhaustible storage devices may be storage devices based on magnetic recording mechanisms or higher grade flash storage. The file storage system may store received content items on the exhaustible storage devices. The file storage system may additionally store metadata for the content items and/or the file storage system on the non-exhaustible storage devices. During operation, the file storage system may globally optimize the content items on the exhaustible storage devices such that more heavily accessed items are moved to exhaustible storage devices that have experienced relatively few data operations. The file storage system can move less frequently accessed content items to exhaustible storage devices that have experienced a relatively large number of data operations. As such, the operation lifetime of the exhaustible storage devices as a whole can be prolonged.
