Description:
Dr. Gross graduated from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1985. He works in Westerly, RI and specializes in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Dr. Gross is affiliated with Westerly Hospital.
There is provided a substrate () capable of carrying uniformly dispersed, finely divided, particulate, solid particles, e. g. , catalyst particles () and sustaining temperatures in excess of 1200 degrees F. The substrate comprises a top layer () for containing the particles () and composed of quartz fibers () with an average diameter of between about 0. 1 and 4 microns and about 0 to 13% of microglass fibers having a softening point of about 1000 degrees F. A support layer () is composed of the fibers of the top layer and, in addition, bulk refractory, e. g. , ceramic, fibers () having and average diameter of about 1 to 4 microns and 0 to 50% of chopped e-glass fiber (). A method for producing the substrate is provided that includes wet laying the top and bottom layers in spaced apart times so that the juncture () between the two layers has intermingled fibers whereby the consolidated layers are not easily separated.
Process And Apparatus For Making Improved Glass Micro Fibers
A process is provided for producing improved, superior and more cost effective glass micro fibers, wherein molten glass in filament form is attenuated into glass micro fibers by gasses of a combusted mixture of air and fuel. The improvement comprises introducing into the mixture a gas stream containing at east 70% by volume of oxygen. This avoids problems in glass micro fiber production where the quality of the fibers varies from time to time, as demonstrated by the quality of paper produced therefrom. An apparatus for producing the fibers is also provided, as well as improved glass micro fibers and improved papers made therefrom.

Abstract:
The invention provides a method for pleating a filtration material (), having at least one filtration layer () and a stiffening layer (), comprising preparing the filtration layer () as a non-woven layer of synthetic fibers, preparing the stiffening support layer () as a non-woven layer of synthetic fibers, with a majority of the fibers having an average denier at least two times the average denier of the synthetic fibers of the filtration layer () and sufficient in number and denier so that when attached to the filtration layer () produces a self-supporting composite (), forming lines () of spaced apart perforations () in the support layer () with the lines () corresponding to intended folds () in a pleated filtration material (), attaching the perforated support layer () to the filtration layer () to form the composite () thereof, and pleating the composite filtration material () by folding the composite filtration material () along the lines () of the perforations () in the support layer (). A corresponding filtration material and framed filter are also provided.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a media (such as a filter media) having one or more carbon nanotube (CNT)-containing layer. Each CNT-containing layer contains high temperature refractory fibers (e.g., staple quartz fibers and/or ceramic refractory fibers) that have melting temperatures greater than about 600 C. and in situ grown CNTs. Substantially all of the in situ grown CNTs have one end thereof associated with the fibers. This results in substantially all of the in situ grown CNTs extending away from substantially all of the fibers. Moreover, substantially all of the in situ grown CNTs are dispersed throughout the fibers. In one embodiment the media also includes one or more supporting layer. Each supporting layer contains high temperature refractory fibers that have melting temperatures greater than about 600 C., optionally bulk refractory fibers, optionally E-glass fibers, and optionally microglass fibers. The media can be tailored as a filter media to remove different size particles and have different dirt loading capacities depending upon the desire of the consumer.

Abstract:
A composite filter media of a nanofiber layer that includes nanofibers formed from non-polar, non-conductive thermoplastic polymers using a solution spinning process to form the nanofibers directly onto a conductive layer is presented, along with the associated methodology for making such media. The conductive layer includes at least about greater than about 5 wt. % conductive fibers, Z-directional conductivity and a uniform surface conductivity of at least about 10microsiemens.

somber Dickens who would feel obliged to record the tragedy and depth of child poverty he witnessed. Although only a teen, Walsh gives the illusion of a person of stature. The eldest in the cast is 17-year-old Stephen Gross who is wonderfully abrasive as Mr. Pinch, the clear inspiration for Scrooge.
