Abstract:
A mortar applying device (10) includes a motor (12) and hopper (14) mounted on a wheeled (18 and 50) frame (32). The wheels (18) can be driven at variable speeds using the throttle of the engine (12) to accommodate faster and slower rates of block laying. At the forward end of the frame (32) is an arm (34) and wheel (36) assembly which senses the end of the wall under construction and which activates motor cut off switch (44). The hopper (14) is lined with a low coefficient of friction, low adhesion material (70) to prevent mortar from clinging inside the hopper (14). The discharge element (66) located under the open bottom (64) of the hopper (14) includes an angled guide (72) which directs mortar out two exit ports (74 and 76). The height of the ribbons of mortar exiting under gates (80 and 82) is controllable and is smoothed over by a bevelled edge (88).

Abstract:
Apparatus for abrasive blasting of the bottom of a ship in a drydock includes a blast head mounted on a vertically swinging boom on a vehicle. The blast head has freedom of movement about two pivot axes which are not parallel to each other. One of the pivot axes is coincident with the longitudinal axis of the boom. The center of gravity of the blast head is below the pivot axes when the blast opening normally faces upwardly. The boom and blast head are raised by double acting hydraulic cylinders which hold the blast head against the ship with a constant force. The blast head has a side edge which extends laterally at least to the side edge of the vehicle to facilitate blasting adjacent to obstacles under the hull. An overhung load adapter connects the blast wheel to its motor to minimize radial loads on the blast wheel motor. In the blast head, a stream of blasting material falling toward a main hopper is subjected to a transverse air stream which laterally deflects lighter particles into a debris channel.

Hobby Lobby ruling fuels political and legal uncertainty
The problem that I think jumps out of the Hobby Lobby case is where do you draw the line and how do you decide what corporations believe, said Steven Wells, a partner at the Minneapolis office of Dorsey & Whitney, an international law firm. Many corporations have the wherewithal and power tha
Congress, in the 1958 law, made a "moral judgment ... as to which animals are going to be amenable to slaughter," which states can't second-guess, Steven Wells, lawyer for the National Meat Association, told the court.
California's Los Angeles-based deputy attorney general, Susan K. Smith, will represent the state Wednesday, matched up against Minneapolis-based lawyer Steven Wells, who represents the meat association, and an Obama administration lawyer.
Because the state law requires slaughterhouses to immediately euthanize downer pigs, it prevents federal inspectors from examining those pigs before death for signs of disease, the association's lawyer, Steven Wells, said Monday.
