WMC-TV (http://bit.ly/198ipPa ) reports Teresa Mayes pleaded guilty on Friday to second-degree murder in the deaths of Jo An Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne. She also pleaded guilty to kidnapping in the April 2012 abduction of sisters Alexandria and Kyliyah, who were 12 and 8 at the timeAuthorities have said Adam and Teresa Mayes drove from Tennessee to their home in Guntown, Miss., with the bodies of Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain and the two surviving girls. After arriving in town, Adam Mayes fled with Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain into the north Mississippi woods.
Mayes' wife, Teresa Mayes, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and especially aggravated kidnapping and her mother-in-law, Mary Frances Mayes, has pleaded not guilty to especially aggravated kidnapping.The statement read in court provided the first explanation of how the Bains were killed and offered details into Adam Mayes' motive. Teresa Mayes said in the statement that her husband was in love with Alexandria and feared losing her because the family was moving to Arizona.
ayes entered the Bain home with his key and gave Gary Bain a tequila sunrise cocktail mixed with Visine and prescription drugs, the statement said. Teresa Mayes said her husband told her he then killed Jo Ann Bain who struggled and scratched his neck and her oldest daughter, the statement said.
Mayes' bond was increased from $300,000 to $500,000. Her preliminary hearing and that of her daughter-in-law, Teresa Mayes, was rescheduled for June 19 pending psychological evaluations of the two women.
