Her early professional experience included a position with Macy's managing departmental staff, where she was involved with inventory and merchandising. In addition to this, she worked with Esprit de Corp as an account adjuster settling large client billing, inventory, and customer relations disputes. She believes the skills she acquired in these early positions honed her ability to close deals efficiently and effectively. Theresa currently lives in McLean, Virginia with her husband and three children. Her two school-aged children attend Fairfax County Public Schools, and they have both participated in the county's French Immersion Program. She is a frequent volunteer in their schools and in the community. She has coached girls' basketball for McLean Youth Athletics for the last four years, and from 2002 - 2005 served as president of the volunteer board of the McLean Swim and Tennis Association. Under her leadership, the pool association completed a major renovation of its facilities that resulted in greater member enjoyment and much needed membership growth
