Abstract:

A composition comprising a peptide or a peptidomimetic thereof that inhibits the C-terminal domain truncation of mGluR1α by calpain, wherein the peptide is 10-30 amino acids in length and contains a sequence that is at least 70% homologous to VIKPLTKSYQGSGK. Also disclosed are methods of detecting the C-terminal domain truncation of mGluR1α by calpain, methods of inhibiting the C-terminal domain truncation of mGluR1α in a neuron, and methods of identifying a compound that inhibits the C-terminal domain truncation of mGluR1α.

Abstract:

An example system includes a first and second digital device. The first digital device may be configured to provide an interface displaying an image including a depiction of an object, place a bounding shape around the object, and crop contents of the bounding shape to create a portion. The second digital device may be configured to receive the portion, retrieve high-level features and low-level features, apply first Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) to the high-level features to aggregate the high-level features as aggregate features, concatenate results to create the aggregate features, up-sample, apply a convolution to the low-level features, concatenate the aggregate features with the low-level features after convolution to form combined features, segment the combined features to generate a polygonal shape outline along outer boundaries of the first object, and provide the first polygonal shape outline to the first digital device for display.

Abstract:

Embodiments of a multimodal question answering (mQA) system are presented to answer a question about the content of an image. In embodiments, the model comprises four components: a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) component to extract the question representation; a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) component to extract the visual representation; an LSTM component for storing the linguistic context in an answer, and a fusing component to combine the information from the first three components and generate the answer. A Freestyle Multilingual Image Question Answering (FM-IQA) dataset was constructed to train and evaluate embodiments of the mQA model. The quality of the generated answers of the mQA model on this dataset is evaluated by human judges through a Turing Test.

Abstract:

Simvastatin is a drug used in treatment of hypercholesterolemia because of its inhibitory activities towards cholesterol biosynthesis. The technology described herein is a novel method of biosynthesizing Simvastatin directly from an engineered microbial host (such as ) using an engineered biosynthetic pathway. The identification and engineering of biosynthetic pathways opens up new metabolic engineering opportunities for statin production from organisms such as yeast. Using this technology, Simvastatin can be obtained by feeding a simple synthetic building block to fermented culture. Such methods provide a cost-effective way of obtaining Simvastatin including, for example, one-pot fermentation processes.
