Abstract:

The present invention provides a method for determining whether an individual has a central nervous system disease or injury comprising: obtaining a T measurement for at least one brain tissue sample from an individual; determining if the T measurement indicates the presence of a central nervous system disease or injury in the individual. The present invention also provides a method for determining whether an individual has a central nervous system disease or injury comprising: obtaining a first T measurement using an MRI technique for a brain tissue sample from an individual at a first time; obtaining a second T measurement using an MRI technique for the brain tissue sample from the individual at a second time; and comparing the second T measurement to the first T measurement. In addition, the present invention provides a method for determining the effectiveness of a treatment for a central nervous system disease or injury comprising: obtaining a first T measurement using an MRI technique for a brain tissue sample from an individual at a first time; administering a first treatment to an individual; obtaining a second T measurement using the MRI technique for the brain tissue sample from the individual after administering the first treatment; and comparing the second T measurement to the first T measurement.

The present invention provides methods for determining brain functioning in an individual by measuring the amount of either N-acetylaspartate or choline in an individuals brain. The present invention also provides methods for determining a change in an individuals brain functioning due to a change in the concentration of N-acetylaspartate or choline in the individuals brain.

Abstract:

A computer based method and system generates alerts based on the detection of an advanced scenario in a data set. The system and method may take data related to events and entities, transform the data, and apply advanced scenarios to the data to produce matches that reflect the occurrence of an advanced scenario and the behavior of interest. The advanced scenarios can be defined to cover specific product lines and services, lines of businesses, and combinations thereof. The advanced scenarios can be defined to be indicative of a behavior class, or a specific behavior which is part of a behavior class. Alerts produced by the system can be grouped, prioritized and routed such that the appropriate users are notified in a timely manner. The system and method can be applied to a variety of industries including financial and health care, and can detect both illicit and licit behaviors of interest.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for an incipient fire detection system that receives gaseous samples and measures the light absorption spectrum of the mixture of gases evolving from heated combustibles includes a detector for receiving gaseous samples and subjecting the samples to spectroscopy and determining wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples. The wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples are compared to predetermined absorption wavelengths. A warning signal is generated whenever the wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples correspond to the predetermined absorption wavelengths. The method includes receiving gaseous samples, subjecting the samples to light spectroscopy, determining wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples, comparing the wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples to predetermined absorption wavelengths and generating a warning signal whenever the wavelengths of absorption of the gaseous samples correspond to the predetermined absorption wavelengths. In an alternate embodiment, the apparatus includes a series of channels fluidically connected to a plurality of remote locations. A pump is connected to the channels for drawing gaseous samples into the channels.

Abstract:

The present invention describes a method for the detection of heat, incipient fire or combustion comprising the steps of: 1) incorporating a temperature-specific indicating agent which emits a specific detectable gas upon attainment of a predetermined temperature in an area where heat or incipient fire is to be detected, 2) providing a gas detector capable of detecting the specifically detectable gas emitted from the temperature-specific indicating agent; 3) detecting the specifically detectable gas; and 4) providing a warning or alarm when the specifically detectable gas reaches a predetermined concentration in the area. There is also disclosed a heat or incipient fire detection system comprising a temperature-specific indicating agent which emits a specific detectable gas upon attainment of a predetermined temperature and a detector for the specifically detectable gas.
