Abstract:

A method of inspecting a radius area of composite parts with an ultrasonic inspection system, the system includes at least one ultrasonic probe, an upper sliding surface, a lower sliding surface, an adjustable guide rail, and an adjustable encoder wheel rotatably coupled to a rotary encoder, is provided. The method includes generating a high frequency sound wave using the probe including a radius of curvature extending from a center point, the sound wave travels partially through the part, adjusting the guide rail to align the center point of the probe with a center axis of a part corner portion, sliding the part through the inspection system to inspect the corner portion using the sound wave by rotating the wheel and rotary encoder such that the arcuate distance of the part is recorded, adjusting the wheel to avoid any apertures defined within the part, and processing the sound wave information.

Abstract:

A degassing valve in a flexible container is disclosed. The valve includes a generally flat valve seat on a truncated generally dome shaped structure, and the valve seat is raised a height above the valve chamber base surface. A resilient, non-perforated, non-spring-biased diaphragm is inter-engaged upon the valve seat and overlaps the valve seat outer periphery. The valve seat engages a central area of the diaphragm that is not proximate the perimeter of the diaphragm, and the dome shaped structure has a sectional radius greater than the diaphragm radius. A well is recessed into the valve seat in a direction away from the diaphragm by a depth less than the height of the valve seat above the valve chamber base surface.

Abstract:

A method and system for automatically loading foam pellets which clean fluid carrying passages, such as hydraulic tubing, into a pneumatic launcher. The pellets are automatically transferred from a storage sleeve into the pneumatic launcher for subsequent propulsion through the tubing. Interior walls of the passages are scrubbed clean as the pellets pass therethrough. In addition, the method and system can easily convert a conventional foam cleaning pellet pneumatic launcher from a manual loading operation to a fully automatic loading operation, thereby increasing overall productivity of the cleaning operation.

Abstract:

A pressure relief valve for use with flexible containers is disclosed. The valve comprises a valve chamber, a valve chamber seat with an inlet gas port or ports to the interior of the container and a resilient diaphragm floating within the chamber. The valve seat is shaped with a generally flat diaphragm-engaging surface in a central area of the diaphragm where the inlet gas port(s) are located, and at least one surface that does not generally engage the outer portion of the diaphragm, such that a diaphragm floating in the valve chamber engages a central portion of the valve seat surface stopping the passage of gases in or out of the container before a certain pressure is reached, but permitting the passage of gases from within the flexible container as pressure builds, while preventing the flow of atmospheric gases into the container.

Abstract:

A material hardness testing apparatus is provided, for use in quality control of production materials and parts, in which a pneumatically actuated indenter probe, incorporating an LVDT displacement transducer, is coupled by an analog-to-digital converter to a microprocessor-based computer that controls the cyclic actuation of the indentor probe, and processes indenter measurement data received from the LVDT transducer. The pneumatically actuated indenter probe includes pneumatic control means for providing independently adjustable control over the rates of probe impact and retraction in order to achieve consistent hardness measurements from cycle to cycle, together with relatively rapid displacement cycling of the indenter probe. The microprocessor-based computer incorporates a recalibration processor which automatically causes the testing apparatus to branch into a recalibration routine after a predetermined period of operation. During such recalibration, the apparatus semi-automatically tests and compares the measured hardness of one or more reference specimens with hardness values stored in memory and either disables the testing apparatus when the measured hardness deviates from the standard by a predetermined percentage amount, or stores in memory the difference between the measured hardness and the standard and enables the apparatus to continue with further testing.
