Abstract:
Formamide with low conductivity and a neutral or slightly basic pH is provided. Such formamide may be used in a sample loading solution for capillary electrophoretic separation of biomolecular analytes to enhance the efficiency of sample injection into the capillary and the intensity of the signal. Formamide of the present invention may be obtained by first purifying the formamide to a conductivity of below 7 micro mho, and then adjusting the pH of the purified formamide with a base to a range of about pH 6. 5 to 7. 5. The purification may be carried out by first removing the water from the formamide, and then distilling the dried formamide until the conductivity of formamide is below about 7 micro mho.

Abstract:
An existing network configuration is assessed, and potential changes to the existing configuration are identified that provide the greatest incremental improvements to the performance of the network. In a preferred embodiment, the user of the system identifies the maximum number (N) of changes that may be implemented in an existing network, and the system provides a set of possible reconfigurations, each requiring fewer than N changes. The user is presented a display of the potential improvement provided by each set as a function of the number of changes in the set, so that the relative incremental gain can be easily visualized. The objective function of the optimization may include conventional load-balancing objectives, or other objectives, such as a global minimization of path lengths.

Abstract:
A path-flow formulation of defining MPLS FRR bypass LSPs is presented. The path-flow formulation comprises first identifying a set of candidate bypass LSPs, each of which meets various network constraints and has an explicit route around a network facility to be protected. The constraints may include Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees, implementation requirements, network element resource limitations, and resiliency requirements. The constraints may be user-selected, and may be non-linear. The set of candidate bypass LSPs form a linear programming (LP) problem, or an integer linear programming (ILP) problem if the allowable number of bypass LSPs is constrained. In an optimization step, LP solutions are used to select the bypass LSPs from among the candidate bypass LSPs by allocating bandwidth to them.
Fiberoptic Device With Long Focal Length Gradient-Index Or Grin Fiber Lens
Embodiments of the invention provide a fiberoptic device that uses a gradient-index (GRIN) lens for focusing a light beam emitted by an optical fiber, but achieves a substantially longer focal length than that of a GRIN lens alone by placing a beam expander (e. g. , no core fiber or step-index multimode fiber) between the terminal end of the optical fiber and the GRIN lens to simulate free space therebetween. In one embodiment, a fiberoptic device comprises an optical fiber having a fiber core and an end through which a light beam emits from the fiber core; a beam expander having a first end coupled to the end of the optical fiber and having a second end, the beam expander permitting the light beam emitting from the fiber core to pass from the first end to the second end and to expand from the first end to a larger size at the second end; and a gradient-index fiber lens coupled to the second end of the beam expander to receive the light beam from the beam expander and focus the light beam.

Abstract:
An ablation and monitoring system comprises a catheter, an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system, and an ablation generator. The catheter comprises one or more optical fibers to transmit a light beam to a tissue material and collect a reflected light from the tissue material. The OCT system is in optical communication with the catheter via the one or more optical fibers, providing the light beam to the one or more optical fibers and receiving the reflected light from the one or more optical fibers. The ablation generator is in electrical communication with the OCT system and with the catheter. The ablation generator provides radio frequency energy to the catheter for ablating the tissue material, monitors and assesses the ablation based on an information signal received from the OCT system.
